Recent documents, including those integrated into Regula’s 2023 database update, reveal a growing trend for more protection against counterfeits, which leads to including more security features or sophisticating the existing ones.

This trend has been particularly evident in the global increase in electronic documents, which have proved to be more fraud-resilient. In 2023, this trend continued evolving, as new countries introduced their first electronic passports. Among them are Bahrain, Iraq, Jamaica, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Somaliland.
