Last update:

Thibault Constant, a lifelong night train traveller and creator of the popular YouTube channel Simply Railway, has announced the launch of his own night train company, Nox Mobility.

From 2027, Nox plans to operate Europe-wide overnight trains with fully personal rooms for one or two people at the price of a flight.

Why Nox?

Constant’s passion for night trains runs deep! He’s ridden nearly every route in Europe, created viral content around the experience, and even published a book.

Even though the idea of night trains was sustainable, the reality is often frustrating, writes Constant in a LinkedIn post.

“I love the idea of night trains, but my compartment was tiny and shared with strangers. My train was two hours late, and I paid €250 but barely slept. I’ve experienced similar issues myself.

Despite promoting night trains, I’ve felt hesitant to recommend something that doesn’t meet expectations,” says Constant.

Consequently, he teamed up with Janek Smalla, who previously launched FlixTrain and served as General Manager for Bolt Germany, to co-found Nox Mobility.

How will it be different from other trains?

According to Constant, Nox will focus on privacy, good sleep, and affordable prices.

Travellers will have their private rooms and can lock them from both the inside and the outside.

The company aims to offer ticket prices comparable to airfares.

Additionally, the spacious design allows guests to bring all their luggage and personal items while still having enough room to relax in comfortable armchairs, work at large tables, and enjoy the scenery through their large personal windows.

“Our room design allows us to fit more people into our trains than traditional operators can. This, paired with a strict focus on standardisation and operational excellence, will allow us to offer affordable fares on over 35 European routes”, says the founder, Janek Small, who has co-launched FlixTrain, and until 2024 led the German ridesharing market for Bolt.

The company has already reserved train coaches, is finalising the approval of its interior design, and is now preparing the next large financing round for autumn.

Facilities and prices

Currently, Nox offers three room categories:

Single and Double Loft rooms offer upper beds that guests can access by a ladder.

These rooms also feature separate seating and table areas, providing plenty of space for personal belongings.

In Loft rooms, guests sleep vertically to the direction of travel and enjoy a loft-style view of their surroundings.

Double Vista rooms are equipped with a low-floor bed and a chest-height bed for easy access.

These rooms provide ample space for guests to relax by converting the bed into two seats.

In Double Vista rooms, guests sleep parallel to the direction of travel, taking in beautiful views directly from their beds.

According to the company’s claims, single rooms will start at €79, while double rooms will begin at €149. Prices may vary based on demand.

“Sleeping while a train gets you across Europe is a great concept. But today, people have to share their cabins with strangers, beds are tight, and it’s often more expensive than air travel. We want to change that and make night trains an essential part of European travel,” says Thibault Constant, Co-Founder of Nox.

On YouTube and Instagram, Thibault Constant is known as “Simply Railway”, with over half a million followers and over 400 night train trips worldwide under his belt.
