Last update:

Uber Technologies, a US-based transportation and delivery company, has announced its acquisition of Dantaxi, a taxi company in Denmark, from private equity firm Triton.

Daniel Björklund, Investment Advisory Professional, Triton, says, “Dantaxi has gone from strength to strength under Triton’s ownership, driven by a focus on providing a quality service for both consumers and drivers.”

“With Uber’s support, the company is well-placed to continue its impressive growth, provide greater access to transport for consumers, and give drivers the benefit of an innovative global platform. It has been a pleasure to work with the Dantaxi team, we look forward to following their continued journey under Uber’s ownership.”

The move will expand Uber’s mobility platform in Denmark, linking riders with over 3,500 drivers across 75 of the country’s 98 municipalities.

Brief about Dantaxi

Founded in 1937 and currently led by CEO Carsten Aastrup, Dantaxi claims to be Denmark’s largest taxi provider, offering broad coverage and short travel times. It operates a fleet of around 1,900 vehicles and works with more than 1,000 independent drivers.

The company has been in operation for 85 years and is involved in efforts to transition to electric transport. It runs a charging hub for electric taxis in the Nordic region and maintains a large number of electric vehicles in its fleet.

Dantaxi was previously acquired by the private equity firm Triton in December 2018. Since then, it has expanded its presence across Denmark. Uber Technologies now owns the company.

Carsten Aastrup, CEO of Dantaxi, says, “Joining forces with Uber opens up an exciting new chapter for Dantaxi. We share a common vision for providing sustainable, high-quality transport, and together we can deliver an even better experience for riders and greater opportunities for drivers across Denmark.”

“We thank Triton for all their support and are excited about the journey ahead. We remain committed to operating our much-needed local taxi services, supporting our drivers and staying true to our Danish roots.”

Aim of the acquisition

Uber has acquired Dantaxi as part of its plan to expand urban mobility services in Denmark. The acquisition brings Uber’s technology together with Dantaxi’s local operations. It follows Uber’s launch in Copenhagen earlier this year and aims to increase access to on-demand transportation throughout the country.

In the coming weeks, riders in Denmark will be able to use the Uber app to request rides, including electric vehicle options. The service aims to support reduced private car usage and improve transport connections.

Users will have access to features such as upfront fare estimates, driver details, ETA sharing, and in-app emergency support. All trips will follow Denmark’s regulated taxi fares, with pricing shown in the app before booking.

Dantaxi will continue its local taxi services while its network of drivers becomes integrated with Uber’s platform. Drivers will keep their existing agreements and gain access to Uber’s dispatch system, demand tools, and safety features.

Maurits Schönfeld, General Manager Northern Europe at Uber, says, “This acquisition marks a major investment in the future of Danish mobility. By combining Uber’s world-class technology with Dantaxi’s trusted local taxi service, we aim to make everyday travel more accessible, sustainable, and convenient across Denmark.”

“With over 3500 drivers and operations in 75 out of 98 municipalities, this deal will create the most widely available mobility platform in the country,” adds Schönfeld.

The acquisition complies with Danish taxi regulations. Dantaxi continues as the licensed taxi operator, maintaining regulatory compliance and service continuity.

Supporting electric and accessible transport in Denmark

Uber and Dantaxi are working together to advance electric mobility in Denmark. Dantaxi already operates electric vehicles, while Uber plans to shift to a zero-emission platform in Europe by 2030. Their combined efforts aim to support Denmark’s move toward electric transport.

In addition, both companies will continue to offer transport services that include options for riders with mobility needs, such as wheelchair-accessible vehicles, in various cities across the country.
