The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the global outbreak of the new coronavirus a pandemic.
And understanding the seriousness of quarantining and self-distancing, food delivery giant Uber Eats is waiving delivery fees on all orders for those who are bored of eating home-cooked food amid the coronavirus across the Netherlands.
Coming up with this strategy is suitable for both local restaurants who are taking a hit and, of course, the customers. Also, Uber Eats is ramping up it’s marketing through email, promoting free delivery from restaurants. Moreover, the company onboarded dozens of restaurants in person, installing a tablet and training the personnel so they can start delivering meals now that their restaurant needs to remain closed
Uber Eats mentioned in its newsletter:
We understand that you may be more dependent on meal delivery at this time. To make food delivery more accessible and reduce the need to leave the house, we offer free delivery on all orders through Monday, April 6th, with the code ‘HOMEDELIVERY.’
According to the latest report from RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and Environment), around 1,413 people in the Netherlands are infected with COVID-19, the illness that is caused by the new coronavirus. Out of the affected 1413, four have died since Sunday, March 15th, bringing the death toll to 24.
Safety is our top priority, both for our customers and our delivery and restaurant partners. We encourage you to place a delivery note with your order in the Uber Eats app to ask the courier to leave your order at the door after he or she has arrived to avoid contact.
As a result, new measures were announced to slow down the spread of coronavirus, including things like work from home, cancellation of events with more than 100 visitors, closure of all food and drink establishments, and much more. These extra measures will be on effect till April 6th.
You can rest assured that we are monitoring the situation closely and working with the authorities to apply their latest meal delivery recommendations. We are also in direct contact with our restaurant partners and couriers to keep them informed of the situation, to share food delivery recommendations with them, and to support them during this complex time.
Notably, the average age of the deceased is 79, with the oldest being 94 years old, and the youngest is 59 years old.
