Last update:

London-based PHINXT Robotics, a company that provides Autonomous Mobile Robotics (AMRs) automation for warehouses of any size, has secured £2M (approximately €2.32M) in a seed round of funding.

In June 2024, Ada Ventures joined a seed funding round for PHINXT Robotics and co-invested with George Mensah from Sure Valley Ventures and angels including co-founder of Wayve, Amar Shah

This development was announced on Tuesday, August 6, by Ada Ventures via a LinkedIn post. The firm says, “We’re excited by the team behind PHINXT. Their unique diverse talent combines both academic and technical expertise with strong commercial sensibilities.”

Ada Ventures believes robotics will be essential for the economy by 2050, viewing automation as a way to reduce waste and create better jobs and opportunities. This investment in PHINXT Robotics could lead to significant value creation in the next decade, says the firm.

PHINXT Robotics offers a solution that helps address labour shortages and meet e-commerce demands, aligning with Ada Ventures’ broader goal of integrating automation into the global economy.

Transforming warehouse automation

PHINXT Robotics has developed a platform that enables the deployment of autonomous robots in warehouses of any size to scale workflow automation.

The solution does not require a server or IT infrastructure, as robots operate autonomously and are fully configurable through a cloud platform and user interface.

The company’s software adapts to various warehouse layouts and covers all use cases, including transporting goods, packing, sorting, and material handling.

Rather than manufacturing and selling robots, PHINXT Robotics employs a recurring business model based on software subscriptions, with an option for customers to lease robots from partners.

The platform is OEM agnostic, working with different robot brands. This flexibility allows warehouse owners to start with a few robots and scale up as needed without requiring technical expertise.

PHINXT was founded in 2022 by Yanwen Chen and Quirino Zagarese. Chen, CEO, is a skilled technical founder with two PhDs in optimisation of distributed and autonomous systems and 11 years of experience in robotics. She developed an algorithm for safe robot self-orchestration.

Her co-founder and CTO, Zagarese, holds a PhD in Service Computing and has over a decade of software engineering experience. He was Chief Architect at Yoti, where he wrote three patents and launched four global products.

Capital utilisation

According to Ada Ventures’ statement via Medium, PHINXT Robotics will use the funds to grow its sales, marketing, and operations teams. The company plans to deploy over 300 robots and expand into Europe, “fine-tuning” its product-led growth strategy.

The company has already gained traction with two key customers who offer scaling opportunities. If successful, one customer may globally roll out PHINXT’s technology, starting in the UK and Europe, and then expanding to the US and Asia.

Beyond warehousing, the company aims to expand into autonomous vehicles and drones, positioning itself at the forefront of automation.
