Rotterdam-based umob has secured €3.5M in funding to accelerate its Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform across Europe. Founded by Raymon Pouwels and Bibi Jorissen, the Dutch tech startup’s latest funding round follows a previous round of €6M at the end of 2023.

The funding will support the company’s expansion into major European cities and further development of its scalable mobility booking platform. The startup aims to build upon its presence in eleven European countries and strengthen partnerships with international providers, including Dott, Voi, and Lime.

Since launching in February 2024, umob has experienced strong growth domestically and expanded into key European markets, including Germany, France, and Spain. The platform offers access to more than 500,000 shared mobility vehicles and complete public transport networks across multiple Western European countries.

Strengthening MaaS solutions

The demand for MaaS solutions is growing as cities face increasing challenges managing limited urban space whilst pursuing sustainability goals. umob’s platform fully integrates all transport modes, allowing users to plan and pay for journeys through one application, even when involving multiple transportation methods.

The platform provides access to shared mobility vehicles from companies such as Lime, Bird, and Cooltra, plus all major European taxi providers.

The company strengthened its position through acquiring Finnish company MaaS Global, considered the world’s first Mobility-as-a-Service company, which had previously raised €70M from investors including BP Ventures, Toyota, and Mitsubishi. This acquisition brought the ‘Whim’ app technology and expertise to umob’s platform.

Both founders bring experience in developing scalable mobility solutions, with the company headquartered in Rotterdam since August 2023.

By incorporating MaaS Global’s technology and experience, umob has evolved into a globally scalable mobility booking platform serving both consumers and business users.

“We have spent the past few years building a solid and scalable platform that truly makes travelling with different mobility providers easier for both consumers and business users. The newly raised capital enables us to fully focus on growth: by building upon our strong international relationships, we aim to further expand our services throughout the continent, stimulating the growth of sustainable and accessible mobility,” says Bibi Jorissen, CEO and co-founder of umob.

Partnerships

The platform positions itself as a strategic partner for municipalities and mobility providers, offering a technical solution developed fully in-house.

With partnerships spanning major mobility providers and public transport networks, umob aims to combat traffic congestion and emissions by providing alternatives to vehicle ownership.

“What started as a vision has quickly grown to become a powerful technical solution developed fully in-house, positioning umob as a strategic partner for municipalities and mobility providers. With the support of our investors, we are now preparing for the next chapter: fully integrating European travel services in one single platform,” added Raymon Pouwels, CCO and co-founder of umob.
