Amsterdam-based VEMS, in collaboration with Biosphere Solar, JansZon BV, and the City of Amsterdam, have secured a subsidy from the MIT R&D to realise a project of €655K to push circular energy to the “next level”.
The subsidy covers 35 per cent of the total project cost, with the funding distributed among the participating parties.
“A huge thanks to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) for backing this vision and to our partners for making it happen. This is just the beginning!,” says VEMS, in a LinkedIn post.
The initiative will see the installation of recyclable photovoltaic (PV) panels from Biosphere Solar in a facility provided by the City of Amsterdam. JansZon BV, the project’s first partner, will manage the installation process.
VEMS will contribute its expertise by optimising performance and enabling predictive maintenance, ensuring the solar setup operates efficiently for years. This project aims to merge digitisation with circular energy hardware, creating smarter, more sustainable energy systems.
VEMS’ vision
VEMS aims to lead the digital energy era by developing a smart energy management ecosystem. The platform is designed to create accurate models of energy assets (PV, batteries, EV chargers). Using these models, the platform aims to simplify energy management while improving sustainability.
VEMS’ platform uses advanced analytics and automatic data retrieval to create energy assets digital twins. These digital twins are then constantly updated with sensor data, allowing for precise monitoring, performance detection, and optimisation of energy systems.
A digital twin is a real-time virtual model of an object, system, or environment. It continuously updates sensor data, allowing users to monitor, analyse, and even simulate scenarios for better decision-making. Used in industries like manufacturing, healthcare, and city planning, digital twins help improve efficiency, predict issues, and enable innovation without disrupting real-world operations.
What does JansZon BV offer?
Founded in 2013, JansZon is dedicated to creating a sustainable world through high-quality solar energy systems and reliable trading. The company helps businesses achieve energy security with affordable power, emphasising safety, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
JansZon enables companies to generate solar power on-site, reduce grid dependence, and store energy in batteries for better management of fluctuating energy prices. By optimising energy consumption and contributing to grid stability, it helps businesses save costs and improve efficiency.
Biosphere Solar: Making solar energy circular and fair
Biosphere Solar focuses on making solar energy circular and fair by offering open-source, refurbishable, and recyclable solar panels.
The company offers a 35-year product warranty for its laminate-free solar panels, which it claims, lasts longer than traditional laminated panels due to their resistance to UV radiation and degradation.
The company operates 3 production sites with a total capacity of 2.5GW/year, with the majority of production in China, while its European sites provide custom module designs.
