Whatsapp is down! The popular messaging app stopped working for many users worldwide on Tuesday. The outage appears to affect multiple users in Europe, the US, Asia, and other regions. Some users reported that they could not send or receive messages, while others reported that they could not connect to the WhatsApp servers.
The company has acknowledged the problem and said it’s working on bringing the messaging app back up.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible,” says a spokesperson of Meta, which also owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
However, there is no clear statement from Whatsapp or Meta on what caused the disruption.
Down Detector, an online platform that monitors website outages, started to receive an unusually high number of “problem reports” from various parts of the world, including India – WhatsApp’s largest market.
According to the website, most reports (69 per cent) were about messages not being sent, while others reported server disconnection and the app crashing altogether.
As a result, several users took to Twitter to report the disruption with hashtag #Whatsappdown, and sparking a memefest.
