Yes! It’s almost the end of 2018! This year has been a busy one in the tech startup ecosystem. We at Silicon Canals have compiled a list of our most shared stories of this year, which created a lot of buzz and are still our readers favourites. We surely appreciate the enthusiasm of our readers. Well, go ahead and give it a read.
Otrium got €750k funding
Otrium, a Dutch fashion e-commerce startup received funding of €750k from Adriaan Mol, the founder of payment provider Mollie and scaleup MessageBird, Fred Gehring, the former CEO Tommy Hilfiger and Ludo Onnink, the ex-CFO of Tommy Hilfiger. With this investment, the overall funding that it has received becomes €1.4 million.
Geeba joins drone delivery
Geeba, a Rotterdam delivery startup joined the drone delivery bandwagon in July. It is a joint venture between Airlift, a Doha-based autonomous vehicle logistics company and n-Gon, a company that specializes in applications for UAVs. Geeba is in plans to develop blockchain technology in the last mile logistics sector.
Blockdata raised €200k
Blockdata based in Amsterdam provides high-quality data on blockchain projects. In October this year, this startup raised €200k funding from undisclosed investors in an angel round. Blockdata aims to map the blockchain ecosystem and progress to become an industry leader with reliable information on blockchain projects.
Ioana Nicolau of Hotelchamp
Several graduates have landed at jobs at startups either immediately after their graduation or after a long quest. Ioana Nicolau became a Digital Marketeer at Hotelchamp. It is a SaaS startup helping hotels obtain more bookings directly via their websites. Based in Bucharest, she pursued her studies in Amsterdam, Nice and Tel Aviv and came back to Amsterdam for a job.
Dominium entered the Asian market
Dominium, a Rotterdam startup signed an extensive partnership agreement with China Blockchain Partners (CBP). As par of the agreement, Dominium entered the Chinese market, which is considered its gateway to Asia. The startup is claimed to build the world’s first global property platform on the blockchain. Despite restrictions on cryptocurrency, China is one of the leading destinations for blockchain technology adoption.
Bitz blockchain payment app was launched
A Dutch startup launched a blockchain payment app called Bitz for social events. The startup uses Ethereum Blockchain. The startup introduces a blockchain-powered digital coin to replace plastic tokens at social events and festivals. With the use of blockchain, Bitz creates a faster, easier and more secure experience while making payments at the events.
Dutch Finance Lab gets €30 million funding
Dutch Finance Lab, a fintech startup received funding of €30 million from NLE founder Pieter Schoen. It is a high amount of funding made in a young enterprise. Dutch Finance Lab will be active with BizPay and Impact Factoring focusing on financing webshops and providing working capital for businesses respectively.
Accountable received €1.7 million funding
Accountable, a Brussels-based fintech startup raised funding of €1.7 million in a seed round by Connect Ventures and other Belgian and international investors. The startup provides an application to make the life of self-employed workers easy by giving them a real-time overview of their deadlines, taxes and finances.
RanMarine Technology developed WaterShark
RanMarine Technology is a Rotterdam startup that specialises in remote-controlled and autonomous drones. It came up WasteShark, a drone to swim through water, gather data about the marine environment and extract unwanted material. It is a drone that is efficient, non-threatening, unobtrusive and long-lasting. This drone will eat plastics and litter, chemicals in the water and extract pest and alien vegetation.
Helloprint secured funding
Helloprint, a Dutch online print platform, which is a Deloitte Fast 50 ‘Rising Star’ winner has secured millions from the second funding round from its investors. However, the amount of funding remains unknown. Previously, the company raised €3 funding in the first round from members of its management team and Gert Jan Munneke, a Dutch tech investor.
