Last update:

Not so long ago, Twittercounter B.V. in Amsterdam (Noord-Holland) was declared bankrupt by the court in Amsterdam. This came as a consequence right after the TwitterCounter, a popular tool for analysing Twitter followers was hacked.

Official message!

In the official website, it has been mentioned that “Twitter Counter has ceased operations on November 5, 2018.” In addition to it, Omer Ginor, CEO, said, “It’s been an amazing journey and we feel honored to have been able to serve you. On behalf of the TwitterCounter team, I wish you a lot of Social Media Marketing success!”

Back story: Turkey’s diplomatic spat with the Netherlands

For the uninitiated TwitterCounter is owned by the same parent company as tech blog ‘The Next Web’. During the hack, official Twitter account of prominent organisations like Forbes, and regular users were compromised to post swastikas and other Nazi-related messages in regards to Turkey’s diplomatic spat with the Netherlands and Germany.

Instead of hacking the accounts, the attackers gained access to TwitterCounter’s service, which was then used to send the tweets. Later Twitter informed that it had action from its side. They further went on saying, “We identified an issue affecting a small number of users. The source was a third party app, and it has been resolved. No action needed by users.”
