These Amsterdam-based startups raised funding in November; 6 of them are hiring right now

There’s no question that Amsterdam is a great place for startups. The city has a thriving ecosystem of startups, investors, and mentors, and is also home to some of the best accelerators and incubators in Europe. As a result, Amsterdam’s startup scene has been getting much attention and investment over the years.

A report from Dealroom reveals that Amsterdam-based startups raised €698M in H1 2022, making it the second-highest H1 on record. Amsterdam also ranks 3rd for new funds raised in 2022 so far, second only to London and Berlin.

We have compiled a list of Amsterdam-based startups that raised funds in November 2022. Some of them are also hiring now. Take a look. 

Dwarf

Founder/s: Demian Beenakke

Funds raised in November 2022: €30M

Hiring status: Yes

Dwarfs is an e-commerce platform that buys and grows e-commerce brands on marketplaces. The Amsterdam platform invests in online stores with revenues ranging from €0.5M to €20M. 

The company claims to be the first e-commerce scaleup in the Netherlands aiming to acquire and consolidate online stores with rapid growth on the bol.com partner platform (LVB – Logistics via bol.com) and, in some cases, internationally through Amazon (FBA – Fulfillment by Amazon).

Dwarfs assist sellers in making their online businesses profitable by quickly scaling up their company operations and increasing their sales. The company is active in the field of home, garden, and kitchen (Garden & Outdoor), tools (Tools & Home Improvement ), and pets (Pet Supplies).

The company recently raised €30M in a fresh round of funding from new and existing investors, including Harlan Capital Partners, Solid Ventures, and angel investors.

Buddee

Funds raised in November 2022: €1M

Hiring status: No

Buddee is a HR-tech startup that has developed an online platform to streamline HR processes for SMEs. The platform helps SMEs to be more efficient by arranging and streamlining all the processes and administration regarding HR, including payroll, employee benefits, and employment law.

The company raised €1M in funding from a network of strategic angel investors to expand the team and improve services and products.

Sympower

Founder/s: Simon Bushell

Funds raised in November 2022: €3M 

Hiring: Yes

Sympower aims to accelerate the global transition towards net zero by helping build smarter and cleaner renewable energy systems. The company balances the supply and demand of power across international energy grids using its in-house developed software platform. 

This year, Sympower became a certified B Corp, which shows that the company is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency across 5 impact areas – governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.

In November, Sympower raised €3M in funding led by Activate Capital. Sympower is hiring for various positions in the Netherlands and Sweden.

Clear.bio

Funds raised in November 2022: Undisclosed 

Hiring: Yes

Clear.bio is a startup that measures blood glucose levels in real-time using a chip-implanted arm patch and an app. The Amsterdam startup has developed a digital self-help tool that helps users put together a fully personalised diet and follow it in their daily lives. 

The healthtech startup claims it helps people with type 2 diabetes become “the best and healthiest version of themselves using data instead of pills.”

In November, the company raised fresh funding from Amsterdam’s Achmea Innovation Fund.

Digital Audience

Based out of Amsterdam, Digital Audience specialises in new digital marketing strategies. 

The Dutch startup helps large companies that want to manage their advertising campaigns in compliance with the new General Data Protection Regulation without having to depend on the data extracted today through cookies. 

Currently, the company works with 38 clients and has an accumulated turnover of €1.6M in 2021. In November, the company raised €100K from Madrid-based LLYC Venturing.

Godrive

Founder/s: Sjors Hemmen, Jeffrey Peters

Fund raised in November 2022: €4M

Hiring: No

Amsterdam-based Godrive offers a car subscription service for used but young cars. The company claims to be a new, flexible alternative to owning or leasing a car. 

Currently, Godrive.nu has more than 350 different cars, from from Volkswagen Polo to Peugeot 3008, to choose from in combination with a car subscription to. 

In November, the Dutch startup raised €4M in a fresh round of funding from Yesqar, a financial firm that combines a data automation platform and finances to offer short and long-term loans and automobile leases.

Overstory

Founder/s: Indra den Bakker

Funds raised in November 2022: €5.2M

Hiring: Yes

Overstory is a global vegetation intelligence platform. The Amsterdam-based company applies Artificial Intelligence (AI) to high-resolution satellite imagery to provide real-time analytics of natural resources.

The Dutch company’s solution helps forest industry companies, electric utility companies, and NGOs to improve decision-making in a timely and accurate manner.

The company’s platform provides minute details, including the location, height, health, and species of trees. It then alerts customers on where the riskiest trees are and those that need to be cut down. 

In November, the company raised €5.2M in a fresh funding round led by Convective Capital.

Drop.in

Hiring: No

Amsterdam-based Drop.in offers a web-based guest app for hotels to provide a seamless and autonomous guest experience. The platform enables hotels to design an autonomous guest experience by giving them access to additional virtual staff members on demand. 

Earlier in November, the company raised a Pre-Seed round of funding from 3XA, ASIF Ventures, Graduate Entrepreneur, and private investors.

Smyle

Founder/s: Almar Fernhout, Dennis Kamst, Roger Nefkens

Funding in November 2022: €1M

Hiring: No

Smyle has developed toothpaste in a tablet, completely plastic-free, using only natural, vegan ingredients, and without gluten. Customers also get a travel kit and a glass bottle to store the mints for free and can reorder them in compostable, reusable paper packages. 

In November, the startup raised more than €1M in share funding on the Broccoli sharefund platform.

Govin

Founder/s: Jesse Grift, Tony Nguyen

Govin is a legal tech startup that aims to bring legal insights and structured information to its users. The company aims to free up invaluable time from chasing documents and screening legal clauses. By centralising all governance data and workflows, it helps investors and founders to make informed decisions and be compliant. Earlier in November, the company raised €1M in a pre-Seed round of funding led by the Dutch Founders Fund (DFF) with participation from Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland.
