The most popular tech conference of Amsterdam, the TNW Conference, is back! The 15th edition of the TNW Conference is happening on September 30 and October 1 at Taets Art and Event Park in Amsterdam. 

The TNW Conference 2021 will be the first hybrid edition, meaning it will take place both in-person and online. However, the in-person edition is open exclusively to only 4,500 attendees eager to reconnect with the industry face-to-face.

What is TNW Conference?

TNW Conference is a 2-day technology event that brings together international technology executives, policymakers, top-tier investors, scale-ups, and startups for business, knowledge sharing, and of course, a whole lot of fun.

Also, attendees can get access to valuable keynote content, match with keynote speakers, and engage with like-minded attendees from anywhere in the world.

Amsterdam startups at TNW Conference 2021

Below is the list of startups selected from “Exhibit with the City of Amsterdam,” powered by StartupAmsterdam and Smart Health Amsterdam. These Amsterdam-based startups will be representing themselves and the City of Amsterdam at the TNW Conference 2021 on September 30 and October 1. 

StartupAmsterdam is an action programme run by the City of Amsterdam that brings the public and private sectors together to support the startups, scale-ups, entrepreneurs, and other players in the local ecosystem. 

Smart Health Amsterdam is the network for data and AI-based innovation in Amsterdam’s Life Sciences & Health sector. The platform was established in close collaboration with the City of Amsterdam, with the Board contributing to the ecosystem and network.

Notably, StartupAmsterdam and Smart Health Amsterdam are part of Gemeente Amsterdam’s Economic Department.

Elementa

Date: September 30, 2021

The Amsterdam company is building a voice assistant app that enables researchers to document their data in the lab instantly into their computers, just by the power of their voice. The app aims to eliminate all the side tasks for researchers in a lab, like documentation, concentration calculations, and others. 

Tech behind the startup: NLP (Natural Language Processing), NLU (Natural Language Understanding), ASR (Automated Speech Recognition) and TTS (Text To Speech), Machine Learning and Deep learning, Conversational AI (Hybrid Intelligence).

This problem contributes to the global estimated waste of $400B/year in biomedical research. Incision

Incision is a platform for surgical performance and online training. The company is on a mission to improve surgical care by sharing surgical skills and making high-quality surgical knowledge accessible to everyone.

“With the use of Computer Vision, we can analyse operative videos and pre-process the video in such a way that outstanding moments are highlighted (i.e. technical errors, deviations, adverse events). This helps surgeons (in training) to evaluate their actions/skills and find areas of improvement. We need to be present at events like these to spread our message, showcase our technology, and get people excited to use our service.”

Clear

Date: September 30, 2021

The Amsterdam startup aims to help people live a healthier lifestyle through the right food choices. In the app, the user needs to log everything they eat, drink, and their activity. The Clear algorithm then determines the nutritional score of your meals and helps you build your optimal nutrition plan. 

Tech behind the startup: The company uses a biosensor (continuous glucose monitor system) to link biodata to logged food items and visualise the response to food in an understandable food score in a mobile app. The company is also developing a recommender system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). It recommends recipes that people like and are good for them based on their glucose response.

NeuroReality

NeuroReality is a medtech company that uses VR, neuroscience & gamification to revolutionise cognitive rehabilitation and brain training. The company is on a mission to improve the lives of individuals with cognitive problems by offering effective solutions that are fun, accessible, and interactive via virtual reality (VR). NeuroReality provides VR games that are intended to train a variety of cognitive skills such as calculation, attention, memory, visuospatial abilities, executive functions, and reaction time.

Asthmaware

Asthmaware develops a monitoring system that consists of a smart-textile shirt and a mobile application. The system uses high-end sEMG technology to evaluate breathing activity during sleep. As it monitors the children while sleeping, it is effortless and allows continuous assessment of symptoms over multiple hours. 

The startup helps children to recognise the early symptoms and intervene in time. As asthma is the most common chronic disease in childhood, Asthmaware can improve the lives of thousands of children worldwide.

Amsterdam needed to be fully circular by 2030 so we need to start thinking differently about what we waste. Our platform and app stimulate a very much needed change in a very outdated system.”
