Amsterdam-based Just Eat Takeaway.com, an online food delivery marketplace, announced on Thursday that it is partnering with Turkish grocery delivery company Getir across Europe.

As a part of the partnership, Getir’s entire product portfolio will be integrated into Just Eat Takeaway.com’s marketplace and delivered directly by Getir couriers.

The partnership will kick off in Germany next week with approximately 2,000 items ready for customers to buy online from all Getir stores through Lieferando’s app and website.

Just Eat Takeaway says the partnership will be rolled out to other European markets in the coming weeks, including the UK, Spain, Italy, and France.

Getir: What you need to know

Founded in 2015 by Nazım Salur, Serkan Borançılı, and Tuncay Tütek, Getir is a last-mile delivery platform with a 10-minute grocery delivery proposition.

In March, Getir reached decacorn status after raising nearly €694M in a Series E round at a valuation of $11.8B. The company is backed by Mubadala Investment Company, Alpha Wave Global, Sequoia Capital, and Tiger Global.

The company has associated businesses, including GetirFood, GetirMore, GetirWater, and GetirLocals.

Getir Regional General Manager, Turancan Salur, says, “As the pioneer of ultrafast grocery delivery, we have found a strong partner in Just Eat Takeaway.com with their excellent market positioning in Europe. The cooperation of two strong international brands is an absolute win-win situation for both: Just Eat Takeaway.com customers can choose from a wider range of grocery and convenience products. At the same time, Getir will benefit from accessing the large consumer base and continue to grow across Europe.”

Just Eat Takeaway: What you need to know

Founded in 2000 by Jitse Groen, Just Eat Takeaway claims to be one of the largest online food delivery marketplaces outside China. It is focused on connecting consumers and restaurants through its platforms. The company mainly collaborates with delivery restaurants.

The company also provides its proprietary ‘restaurant delivery services’ to restaurants that do not deliver themselves.

Currently, Just Eat Takeaway is connected with nearly 634,000 restaurants. It operates in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Switzerland, as well as through partnerships in Colombia and Brazil.

Andrew Kenny, interim COO at Just Eat Takeaway.com, says, “Just Eat Takeaway.com’s grocery offer is going from strength to strength, and this exciting new partnership signifies our commitment to only expand this further. Being one of Europe’s most known food delivery marketplaces, our customers can access everything from delicious meals from their local takeaway or favourite restaurant brand to stocking up on store cupboard essentials and fresh groceries. We’re delighted to work with Getir to bring more choice and convenience to our customers across Europe.”
