Bird comes to the Netherlands: Is Breda ready for electric scooters?

Demonstrating momentum towards its mission of making cities more livable, Bird, a dockless electric scooter company announced it’s rolling out Bird e-scooters in Breda (first city in the Netherlands).

For the uninitiated, Bird is a last-mile electric vehicle sharing company dedicated to bringing affordable, environmentally friendly transportation solutions to communities across the world. Founded in 2017 by transportation pioneer Travis VanderZanden, Bird is headquartered in Venice, California, and is rapidly expanding across the country

Quick, easy and clean!

The rollout of Bird e-scooters offers residents and visitors in Breda a low-threshold form of mobility so that they can move around Breda quickly, easily and in a clean manner.

“Breda is an open and progressive city, and we would like to offer space for new mobility concepts such as partial scooters. Together with Bird, we are taking another step towards clean, accessible and shared transport, ”says Boaz Adank, the accessibility councillor.

Bird Zero!

Less than a year ago, Bird arrived in Europe and the Middle East launching in Paris, Tel Aviv, Brussels, Antwerp, Vienna, Zurich and initiated a pilot in London. To date in 2019, the company has doubled its European footprint with recent launches in Malaga, Lisbon, Warsaw, Lyon, Madrid as well as starting a trial in Bamberg, Germany.

Moreover, Bird’s European expansion will feature its newest scooter – Bird Zero. The scooter is designed to meet the demands of sharing by providing riders with more battery life for longer range, better lighting for increased visibility, and enhanced durability for a longer life-span.

Book it through the app!

If you want to rent a dockless electric scooter from Bird, then you should install the companion app on your phone. The app shows where the scooters are available in your locality.

Once you locate a scooter, you can begin your ride by scanning the QR code shown in the Bird app. This will unlock the scooter and let you start the ride. The app shows the battery life that is left and the location of the bike using GPS.

The company commits itself to collect all of its vehicles each night for charging and necessary maintenance and practising responsible growth by only adding more vehicles when each Bird averages three or more rides per day.
