Last update:

Tango, a fuel station network in the Netherlands bought by Kuwait’s Q8 has invested €8 million in the car-sharing company Snappcar, together with the current shareholders.

The peer-to-peer Dutch car-sharing platform intends to use this funding on growth and extra convenience. Furthermore, the Utrecht-based company aims to reduce the number of cars on the road in Europe with 5 million by 2020.

Aims to become a mobility player!

With this deal, the owner of the unmanned petrol pump becomes a direct shareholder in the car-sharing platform, including co-founder and current CEO Victor van Tol, Autobinck Group, the Danish start-up Founders and crowd funders.

The petrol station company aims to become a mobility player with a mix of car sharing, car lease, parking, public transport, and other sub-concepts.

Bert Gillis, Retail Director Benelux Tango, and Q8 said:

In addition to the 190 unmanned Tango petrol stations and a partner network of more than 750 petrol stations, we in the Netherlands want to focus partly on this service on new services.

Good revenue model!

The fuel station network company sees excellent opportunities in how society deals with mobility differently, such as less focus on car ownership.

- A message from our partner -

Notably, the company behind 190 unmanned petrol stations wants a third of customers to share or lease a car with Snappcar. It’s worth mentioning that Tango customers will receive an offer of a four-month free Snappcar and with a combination discount on fuel.

First brand to open unmanned petrol stations

For the uninitiated, Tango, a part of Q8, is the founder of the ‘unmanned filling’ market segment in the Netherlands. Also, they are the first brand to open unmanned petrol stations on major highways. The company’s ambition is to focus more on e-mobility and broad mobility-oriented services in the future.

1 million users in the summer of 2020

Since 2017 the number of SnappCar users in the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany has doubled to 700,000. The company is planning to reach a milestone or 1 million users in the summer of 2020!

Victor van Tol, CEO, and co-founder of SnappCar, also sees benefits:

More and more people are experiencing the benefits of car sharing in practice. With Tango on board, we invest heavily in growth and extra convenience. We are working on smart solutions so that the key transfer and refueling or charging are no longer necessary at the end of each ride. This way cars are better used; now cars standstill in the city on average 23 hours a day.

Share a car, get a discount!

Earlier this year Snappcar signed an agreement with four of the largest leasing companies in the Netherlands: Justlease, ALD Automotive, Directlease, and Privatelease.com to allow drivers to share their cars in exchange for a discount.

The company tested the pilot project with Fiat500 in collaboration with Privatelease.com. Further, the range of models has expanded with the Peugeot 108, Volkswagen Polo, Opel Astra, and the Dacia Logan.
