Clear, the Dutch tech startup that measures blood glucose levels in real-time using a chip-implanted arm patch and an app has secured €780K in the seed round led by Healthy.Capital and early-stage VC and startup generator, Antler.
Other investors participating in the round included Adeline Lee (worked at Clue and Framer), Omri Amir (founder, Easytobook), Paul Veugen (founder, Usabila and Human), Wouter Broekhof (founder, Wakoopa), and Peter Driessen (founder, Spil Games).
The company is planning to use the funding for technical advancements and will also contribute to international expansion plans as globally, these conditions are on the rise.
CEO and co-founder, Piet Hein van Dam:
Gaining the interest and support of such a highly experienced group of investors convinces me that we can accelerate personalised nutrition technology and make a real impact on human health. This investment allows us to develop our technology further and expand our customer reach in the Netherlands and abroad.
Offers nutritional advice based on one’s biological data!
For the uninitiated, Clear is a front-runner in personalised diet: professional nutritional advice based on one’s biological data to increase energy, manage weight, and promote long-term health.
Founded by Piet Hein van Dam (Ph.D.) and Madelon Bracke (Ph.D.) in 2019 as an Antler’s inaugural programme in Amsterdam, they developed a health programme, based on a chip- implanted arm patch and apps to offer personalised nutritional advice based on an individual’s biological response to food and drink.
Adeline Lee joined as Board Advisor
At present, the programmes focus on measuring postmeal glycemic responses (variations in blood sugar levels) and are currently expanding into Norway. Notably, healthtech product expert and Antler Advisor, Adeline Lee (formerly of Clue & Framer), joined as a Board Advisor to offer product development expertise since the initial product launch.
Piet Hein van Dam added:
This is all predicated on strong scientific fundamentals. You are what you eat, right? We intend to help our users determine precisely what that should be
Since last September, many people, including Dana Albers (Dutch Olympic snowboarding athlete) and Yoeri Leeflang (radio presenter and health geek), and Radmilo Soda (national obesity fighter and personal trainer) have signed up for the programme.
The company expects to enroll 100,000 customers within the next few years with a leading investor, Healthy.Capital, stating they are committed to helping Clear achieve fast and sustainable growth.
Youri Doeleman, the partner of Antler, adds:
Clear is providing a simple alternative to the increasingly problematic ‘one-size fits all’ approach to health. With this technology, people can see exactly what the impact of certain food and drinks is and make better decisions for their bodies. We’re proud to be part of their story, and we’re confident that this product will help thousands of people all over the world.
