Last update:

As there is a necessity to conserve energy and improve efficiency to make a better world for tomorrow, Stuttgart-based instagrid builds infrastructure for the same with its portable power supply. It intends to build software-defined batteries that are accessible to everyone.

Founded in 2018 by Andreas Sedlmayr and Sebastian Berning, this German cleantech company is specialised in developing portable battery equipment and offering a mobile power supply for those working in temporary locations.

Secures funding to scale up business!

In a recent development, instagrid has announced that it has secured €8.5 million Series A funding. This investment round has been led by Amsterdam-based SET Ventures along with participation from Austria-based active early-stage investor Segnalita Ventures, German seed investor High-Tech Gründerfonds, and an undisclosed German family office.

The German cleantech startup has a clear roadmap chalked out to use the new funding. The investment will be used to expand its team, amplify its contribution to the mobile power revolution and energy transition, and scale-up production.

World’s most advanced portable power pack

instagrid has developed the world’s most advanced portable power pack, which replaces highly polluting petrol and diesel generators. Its products and solutions offer flexible, simple, and emission-free access to grid-like power for professionals on-the-move.

With its solutions, instagrid resolves the issue wherein professionals across industries rely on a simple and reliable power supply. This is where its robust solution comes to play as it is better than the solutions available right now in the market in terms of both technical specifications and capabilities. It offers grid-like power delivered from a portable source with solutions for gardeners, event organisers, the construction industry, disaster recovery and humanitarian organisations, and fire brigades.

It keeps the weight, size, and cost of the portable power system down with its modular ‘Software Defined Battery’ technology. As a result, there is 90% reduction in weight and space needed for power conversion and reduction in the overall cost. It is touted to be 40% lower in terms of operating costs sans local emissions.

Widespread launch in H2 2020

Intending to scale up its market presence, instagrid intends to launch its products widely in the second half of 2020. “Instagrid will first sell through recognised brand partners’ existing distribution channels. Premium European tool brands have committed to widespread market launch of instagrid products in the second half of 2020 and we are finalising the supply-chain to serve them,” said co-founder Dr. Andreas Sedlmayr.

Fellow co-founder Dr. Sebastian Berning added: “Then we will step up our market entry under our own brand through online direct sales. Interacting directly with end-users will give us the ability to provide tailored solutions for a range of applications leveraging powerful data insights generated by the integrated IoT connection.”
