Last update:

Back in September, Glovo, a European on-demand delivery startup announced the launch of “Glovo Access” a global logistics service for NGOs, charitable foundations, and social enterprises.

Q-Commerce

And today, the Barcelona-based unicorn announced another new business – ‘Q-Commerce.’ The Q-Commerce or Quick Commerce that delivers “everything” within cities in thirty minutes or less. In order to achieve this, the company has developed virtual dark stores – Glovo Market – its own warehouses that cater specifically for third parties.

Q-Commerce connects users not only with restaurants and supermarkets but everything from toys, music, books, flowers, beauty, and pharmacy stores.

Daniel Alonso, previously the director of Walmart eCommerce, has been appointed as global director of Q-Commerce.

With shops closing down and lockdowns globally, consumers now want and expect more items than ever to be delivered to their doorstep. With this has brought new demands – it is no longer a case of waiting 24-48 hours for a delivery. Rather, the expectation for this is now a matter of minutes.” says Alonso.

He further adds, “As we continue to expand our enhanced offering, we’re excited to launch Q-Commerce in other parts of Spain and the rest of Europe, Eastern Europe and Africa over the next 12 months.”

According to the company, the platform has more than 13,000 users already, delivering around two orders every minute. Right now, the delivery is free, there’s no minimum purchase, and it’s open to users 24 hours a day.

With this plan, on-demand delivery company has partnered with leading retail brands including Unilever, Nestle and L’Oreal and supermarkets including Walmart, Carrefour, and Kaufland, by storing and selling their goods.

Delivered 9 million multi-category orders globally

Glovo says this offers a turn-key solution to businesses of all sizes to build their online stores with immediate delivery directly from the company’s darkstores, currently located in Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, and Milan.

The Spanish company has already delivered more than 9 million multi-category orders globally and in 2019 it experienced a growth rate of 318% year-on-year.

In Spain alone, the number of orders for grocery items has doubled this year for Glovo to more than 1 million.
