Dublin and Munich-based JOLT Energy, an e-mobility company that specialises in battery-buffered ultra-fast charging stations, announced on Tuesday that it has secured €150M from InfraRed Capital Partners, an Infrastructure capital provider.

JOLT Energy plans to install thousands of fast-charging stations across European and North American cities in the coming years.

At the core of JOLT Energy’s breakthrough charging solution is the combination of charging stations and battery storage.

JOLT claims that these stations, capable of delivering up to 320 kW power, can be seamlessly integrated into existing low-voltage grids. The integration of battery storage ensures that additional energy is available throughout the charging process.

According to JOLT Energy, this technology can enable electric vehicle drivers to charge up to 100 km of driving range in just 5 minutes.

Maurice Neligan, CEO of JOLT says, “With InfraRed, JOLT has found a financing partner who supports the establishment of a forward-looking infrastructure and paves the way for the crucial change in e-mobility. Our ultra-fast charging stations equipped with powerful battery storage are the missing link in accelerating the energy and transport transition in cities. Ultra-fast charging systems are the key to unlocking the potential of EVs for city residents.”

JOLT Energy: Accelerating electric mobility adoption

Founded in 2018, JOLT Energy operates as a Charge Point Operator (CPO) with a strong focus on urban areas where a majority of Europeans currently lack sufficient charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

By providing reliable and ultra-fast charging solutions, JOLT aims to cater to the needs of EV drivers in major urban centres.

The company has already established operational sites in German cities, with an additional 100 sites set to be operational by the end of this year.

JOLT’s charging stations are strategically placed in easily accessible areas such as supermarket parking lots, ensuring high visibility and convenience for electric vehicle drivers.

The integration of battery storage allows for easy connectivity to low-voltage AC grids, ensuring regional network stability.

Through these efforts, JOLT actively contributes to the acceleration of widespread e-mobility adoption, the achievement of climate goals, and the reduction of air and noise pollution in cities.

JOLT’s charging network serves as an intelligent energy storage system that can balance the supply and demand of electricity from renewable sources in real-time, stabilising the grid and creating additional revenue streams.
