Based out of Groningen, Klippa was founded in 2015 by six IT specialists to digitise and automate tedious document flows, using machine learning and OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

Expansion to the US market

In the latest development, the Dutch software scaleup announced its expansion to the US market.  Even though several companies got hit by COVID-19, the world of automated document processing is thriving, claims the company.

“This is in part to do with the fact that employees no longer want to do tedious manual data entry, but also with the fact that due to COVID-19, organizations need to cut down on the use of physical documents and reduce contact as much as possible,” said Yeelen Knegtering, CEO and founder of Klippa. “The more people touch a passport, contract, or receipt for instance, the larger the risk of catching the disease.”

Appointed Business developer

As a part of the expansion, the company hired Jesus Cruz as a business developer in America. Cruz’ focus lies on businesses in accounting, hospitality, and construction. He will also conduct niche market research into Klippa’s commercial potential in some American cities on both coasts. The scaleup entered the German, French and Spanish market last year to meet the high demand for innovative technology in those markets

“I came to the Netherlands for an exchange program, but I decided not to go back to the US,” says Cruz. “I fell in love with the country and Groningen specifically, with its beautiful old buildings and canals. Now that I can also work as a business developer for a young and promising software scale-up, I’ll stay here for the time being”.

Smart document processing

Klippa specialises in apps and software for improving administrative processes, scanning receipts and invoices, expense processing, identity validation and data extraction solutions. Back in 2019, the tech company opened a second office in Amsterdam, now serves more than a thousand customers at home and abroad and offers various product lines.

Knegtering: “His approach when it comes to account management is what characterizes him as a business developer. With Jesus it’s all about trust, transparency and being able to recognize what organizations need. We are very happy to bring in this talent and we expect a lot of impact on the US market”.
