Amsterdam-based Peerby, a circular sharing platform that enables neighbours to borrow and lend household items, announced on Thursday that it is making its debut in Boulder, Colorado.

Founded in 2012 by Daan Weddepohl, Peerby claims to have launched the world’s first working goods-sharing platform.

It enables neighbours to share goods such as tools, electronics, bicycles and gardens, camping, and party gear for free or for a fee.

Boulder residents can now join their neighbourhood in Peerby to borrow and share items in various categories, including power tools, kitchen appliances, sports equipment, party supplies, homewares, and more.

According to Boston Smith, Peerby’s Boulder community ambassador, “I’m thrilled to spearhead the Boulder, Colorado, Peerby community. We’ll soon be hosting events and doing community outreach, so we encourage people to stay tuned for updates.”

Boulder residents can search for and borrow items near them or lend their underutilised goods to the neighbourhood surrounding communities.

According to the company, Boulder residents can save money on everyday items by sharing them through the platform, get to know their neighbors, and reduce landfill waste by sharing items.

“We are very excited to launch Peerby in Boulder. The platform has been wildly successful in Amsterdam, and we believe Boulder offers the right cultural fit for us. We look forward to sharing,” says Daan Weddepohl, Founder & CEO at Peerby.

Peerby: Share all kinds of goods

On Peerby.com, neighbours share all kinds of goods, such as tools, electronics, bicycles and gardens, camping, and party items, with or without payment.

The objective of connecting neighbors and combating waste has generated a lot of recognition, investments, and prizes for the company.

An expansion followed to 30 cities in Europe and the US. When the financial model proved unsustainable in 2017, the startup was forced to make a turnaround.

The company has won several prizes, including $125,000 from the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge during the Clinton Global Initiative, $10,000 from Ben & Jerry’s Join our Core, and the App My City Award, as well as the Radical Innovators award.

Daan Weddepohl, the creator of Peerby, was ranked number 13 in the Trouw Sustainable Top 100, named Guardian Tech Talent of the Year, and nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year.

The company has also been part of accelerators such as Techstars, Rockstart, and Founder Institute.

In 2021, the Dutch company grew its revenue by 222 per cent and secured €2.3M funding in 2022.
