Digitalisation and automation technologies are being adopted at a higher rate. Already, it is estimated that there are 1.3 billion connected devices deployed in office buildings across the world right now. This number is likely to increase to 3.3 billion by 2022. With connected digitalisation systems serve a range of applications and need a central operating platform. This increases efficiency and paves the way for a streamlined user experienced.

Founded in 2014 by Marc Gille-Sepehri and Klaus Berberich in Bad Homburg, proptech firm Thing-it is a leader of digitalisation platforms and functionalities. It is a platform for smart offices, intelligent city quarters, and smart facility management.

Thing-it acts as the brain of a networked building, receives the signals emitted by sensors, processes them, and executes the services. Modern sensors can determine room occupancy and optimise building utlisation in a cost-effective way with this platform and result in up to 30% energy savings.

Secures €4.2M funding

Now, the German proptech startup just raised €4.2 million Series A funding from PropTech1 Ventures, which is the first dedicated European VC fund that focuses on the untapped innovation potential of the real estate industry and coparion, which is a Cologne-based VC fund.

Also, its existing shareholders Hermann-Josef Lamberti (former member of the Management Board of Deutsche Bank, currently a member of the supervisory boards of Airbus and ING, among others) and, through his PropTech investment company Anyon, Rupprecht Rittweger (serial entrepreneur and founder of the data center service provider e-shelter, among others) have invested in Thing-it again.

“We have already shown in production what a wide range of functionality and value chains our digitalisation platform can support in commercial real estate,” said Dr. Marc Gille-Sepehri, founder and CEO of Thing-it. “The current financing round helps us to roll out this functionality to a broader market together with our partners.”

“This expansion will focus not only on new buildings but also on existing properties and tenant retrofit projects. Thanks to Thing-it and the hardware of our partners, the digitalisation potential here is comparable to that of new buildings,” added Klaus Berberich, founder and CRO of Thing-it.

Scalable SaaS modular system!

Thing-it delivers a highly scalable SaaS modular system, which is implemented analogously to enterprise platforms with a growing network of integration, hardware, and operating partners. This system is tweaked to suit customers’ requirements.

The digitalisation platform of the proptech startup lets all stakeholders in and around the building, be it tenants, owners, employees, or facility managers interact with one another and with the building. This is possible with an app provided by the platform or a touch screen. Besides office buildings, Thing-it can be used for data centres, shopping malls, co-working spaces, and other buildings.

Renowned customer base

The lighthouse projects of Thing-it include The Ship in Cologne and cube berlin. Its renowned customer base includes CA Immo, Commerz Real, shopping centre specialist ECE Projektmanagement G.m.b.H. & Co. KG and facility managers Piepenbrock and WISAG among others.
