Paris-based PlayPlay is a video creation tool that lets marketing, comms, and social media teams produce high-quality videos within a span of a few minutes. This startup aims to democratise video creation and let people and brands sans any editing or filming skills to create video and entertain their audiences. Now, PlayPlay has secured €10 million Series A funding in a round led by Balderton Capital along with participation from Kerala Ventures and Point Nine.

What does PlayPlay do?

Mobile video consumption has grown by 100% each year, and in 2020, traffic to online videos is all set to grow 15 times higher than it was in 2017. Despite the growth, there is a disconnect between these figures and people with the right editing skills. Also, there is a limited number of free online tools providing video building tech and these lack quality-rich creative interfaces and features making them unsuitable for creating professional videos. This is PlayPlay comes to the rescue of video creators.

Established by Thibaut Machet, Aurélien Dayres and Clément Moracin in 2017, PlayPlay uses motion design technology and templates that let users to create videos from scratch. It can be used either to capture their own footage or use the startup’s library of stock photos and videos. These clips can be trimmed and moved easily via intuitive on-screen tools without any complicated edits or skills to master. It also lets users add animated text to frames with a click of a button.

The videos shot using PlayPlay can be branded using the colours, fonts, and logos of the company and formatted for various platforms as well. These features let to create professional and bespoke videos that stand out exceptionally.

Plans to expand its presence

PlayPlay is in plans to use the Series A funding to hire new talent so that it can expand its teams of creative developers and engineers and develop its intuitive platform. The Paris-based video creation tool also wants to expand its presence and push its boundaries into new markets including the U.S. Currently, PlayPlay has extended its free trial period from seven days to 30 days to help organisations and brands get important messages to audiences during the COVID-19 outbreak.

As of now, PlayPlay has over 300 customers in across 14 countries and produces 40,000 playplays per month. The monthly subscription cost of PlayPlay for small businesses starts from €200. It is already used by enterprise customers such as EY, AXA, Crédit Agricole, and Heineken.

- A message from our partner -

“Having seen, first-hand, the power video has for keeping people informed, entertained and educated, we have created the kind of platform we dreamed about as comms professionals,” said Thibaut Machet, CEO and co-founder of PlayPlay. “Every step of the PlayPlay process combines our two fundamental company principles – the software must be easy to use and the results must be of the highest quality. Not every team has the budget, or the need, to use big design agencies when it comes to video creation. And with free or cheaply made editors, you’re typically forced to sacrifice quality for ease-of-use, or vice versa. PlayPlay hits the sweet spot. The beauty of the videos our customers produce is that they all look so bespoke and professional, you’d have no idea they were created on such a simple platform.”
