Payconiq, a Luxembourg-based mobile payment company, will be discontinuing its services in the Netherlands. From January 1st, 2022, consumers in the Netherlands can no longer pay with Payconiq, Silicon Canals has learned and confirmed.
Jeroen Verrijdt, CEO of Payconiq Netherlands, has confirmed to us that Payconiq will continue to work as a technical supplier in payment processing focusing on modernising technology and developing new services.
“Payconiq will continue its current activity in Belgium and Luxembourg,” he tells Silicon Canals. Payconiq was launched in 2017 through a collaboration between ABN Amro, ASN Bank, ING, Rabobank, RegioBank, and SNS.
No longer works post January 1st
Starting from January 1st, the Payconiq app will be removed from App Store (iOS) and Play Store (Android).
Jeroen says, “After 1-1-2022, it will no longer be possible to pay with Payconiq in the Netherlands. The Dutch Payconiq app can be used until 1-1-2022. After this date, the app will be removed from the Apple app store and Google Play store.”
He adds, “Retailers can continue to receive payments, including from users from Belgium and Luxembourg after which this service for users of the Dutch app also stops.”
In between this period, Payconiq will send an update to customers explaining how to delete the accounts, says the company. Post the set date, Payconiq will delete all accounts, including all personal data associated with them.
“As a merchant, we recommend that you start phasing out Payconiq as soon as possible but no later than 1-1-2022. You are further requested to remove Payconiq marketing materials, logos, and QR codes on your website and/or in-store. In case you are a merchant operating close to the Belgium border and you would still like to accept Payconiq for Belgium consumers please contact us at [email protected],” he concluded.
