Delft-based QuantWare, a company that develops technology for quantum processors, has raised an additional $4.5M (approximately €3.9M) in funding. This second close brings its oversubscribed Series A round to a total of $27M (approximately €23.3M).
The announcement comes two months after raising €20M in a Series A funding round.
Fund utilisation
The Dutch company will use the capital to accelerate the build-out of QuantWare’s chip fabrication facilities.
It will also be used to expand the team and recruit top talent to join the company’s fast-growing organisation.
“VIO plays a critical role in the future of quantum computing, and our recent progress proves that we can turn our vision into reality,” says Matthijs Rijlaarsdam, QuantWare’s CEO.
“We’re now building key partnerships across the quantum ecosystem to deliver 1M qubit systems in the coming years. This additional funding accelerates that momentum, bringing us closer to our mission: making the world’s most powerful quantum processors to solve humanity’s most important challenges,” adds Rijlaarsdam.
QuantWare: Developing quantum hardware
Founded in 2020 by Alessandro Bruno and Matthijs Rijlaarsdam, QuantWare develops quantum hardware and VIO large quantum processors (QPUs) scaling technology.
The company supports quantum computing systems in 20 countries across four continents.
VIO enables scaling for any qubit design and provides a pathway toward systems with more than 1 million qubits.
The technology is available in fully packaged QPUs and through Foundry and Packaging Services.
Quantum processors without VIO have a limited number of qubits, requiring multiple smaller systems to be connected to form a larger one.
These connections introduce noise, reducing overall computational efficiency compared to a single, unified system.
Existing quantum computers, including those from Google and IBM, have between 100 and 1,000 qubits.
QuantWare’s VIO technology is designed to support the development of larger quantum processors with increased computational capacity.
QuantWare provides VIO through its own designed quantum processors and offers the technology to third-party customers via Foundry and Packaging Services.
The company supplies quantum computing technology to customers in 20 countries.
