Quinyx acquires Dutch AI startup Widget Brain; aims to disrupt the workforce management space

Workforce management technology company, Quinyx has acquired the Amsterdam-based Widget Brain, a startup that uses artificial intelligence to automate and optimise workforce scheduling. 

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. 

“After several years of partnering with Widget Brain, we saw the benefits of a deeper integration of the company’s disruptive and forefront technology with our own software solutions,” says Erik Fjellborg, Quinyx’s CEO and founder.

The acquisition will allow Quinyx to automate their labor optimisation process through Widget Brain’s AI-driven technology. It will further help to increase business performance, labour law compliance, and reduce overall labour spend.

Fjellborg explains, “AI and automation is the future for companies needing ROI across their Workforce Management (WFM) process. This acquisition will catapult our product offering, accelerate our progress, and offer ‘best-in-class’ WFM AI solutions to the market.”

About Widget Brain

The company was founded in 2015 by Joachim Arts, Berend Berendsen, and Maarten de Boo. Widget Brain uses artificial intelligence (AI) software to optimise and fully automate the labour scheduling process, helping with employee planning, as well as task assignment all the while taking employee preferences into account.

According to the company, using AI-driven scheduling automation, it reduces workforce scheduling and maintenance schedule from 10 hours per week to just 15 minutes.

Currently, Widget Brain’s technology is producing over 450,000 schedules every month. It has offices in Australia, Europe, and North America

Quinyx wants to make people and businesses grow

Quinyx was founded in 2005 by Erik Fjellborg (CEO). The company has developed a cloud-based, mobile-first workforce management software that simplifies scheduling, time reporting, communication, task management, budgeting, and forecasting. 

According to Quinyx, it helps more than 850 companies around the world improve efficiency, engage employees, comply with regulations, and reduce labour costs.

The acquisition will bring new brands, like commercial cleaning company Facilicom and tank storage company Royal Vopak to the existing Quinyx portfolio which already includes big brands such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, Domino’s, Boots, Benugo, Oatly, London City Airport, DHL, and Swarovski. Widget Brain’s global team and offices will be integrated with Quinyx.

Fjellborg says, “We already share a close relationship, customers and a common vision to help businesses revolutionise their labour scheduling. This merger was a natural fit and we cannot wait to leverage Widget Brain’s outstanding machine learning and AI know-how to deliver the best and most innovative offering to the market.”

Quinyx has offices in the UK, US, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Its software has also been implemented globally in markets and regions such as Europe, North America, China, Japan, and Korea.

Quinyx is backed by a venture capital firm and has raised more than $50M (approx €42.2M) to date.
