Suburbia becomes the first Dutch startup attending Tokyo accelerator’s program

Suburbia becomes the first Dutch startup to be selected for the Fintech Business Camp Tokyo, which is an accelerator program meant for young fintech companies. It is a two-month accelerator program run by the office of the mayor of Tokyo along with Accenture Japan and will debut in October.

Founded in 2018, Suburbia has its headquarters in Amsterdam. Backed by ING, Suburbia believes that alternative data can unlock valuable insights to make better decisions. The company is involved in gathering data for new and hard-to-access sources, collects vast amounts of information and collates the same into a single access point for reliable and fast intelligence. Its solutions help investors and corporations with the predictive power of data.

Selected by Tokyo Metropolitan Government

Suburbia was selected by TMG (Tokyo Metropolitan Government) from over 120 applicants across 29 countries. It is one of the 12 startups that will take part in the accelerator program. They were chosen depending on their innovation business models and technologies that do not exist in Japan.

Fintech Business Camp Tokyo

Initially launched in 2017, the Fintech Business Camp Tokyo is a part of the Japanese government’s four-year-old campaign to revitalise the financial sector of Tokyo and its status as a global financial hub. TMG considers fintech as a key element in achieving goals and the accelerator program aims to provide startups with access to a few leading companies in the country and support them enter into the market.

Will leave footprint in Japan

Startups that participate in the accelerator program will be provided with localisation support, networking and business matchmaking opportunities, and mentoring from leading Japanese banks. In the past two years, 19 foreign companies took part in the program and three of them have begun operations in Japan.

Amsterdam-based Suburbia will meet local companies and investors in the country to culminate with a pitch in November. Following this, the company will present a business plan, which will be developed during the program.
