TEDxAmsterdamWomen: These 3 Dutch women-led startups have made it to final list

The world is really tough for women entrepreneurs, I would say especially the startup world.

While women-led startups face numerous struggles and roadblocks, there are few of them who have overcome all these adversities and have become really successful. At the same time, a lot of initiatives are being introduced globally to support women-led startups.

One such platform is TEDxAmsterdamWomen, which is a global conference hosted in Amsterdam. It provides a stage for women to inspire, focuses on the way women can contribute to the global change and helps reshape the future. With this platform, women can inspire, celebrate and connect with other women in the sector.

After the success in the past few years, the fourth edition of TEDxAmsterdamWomen Startup Award 2018 is scheduled to happen on December 6 at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.

On September 3, 25 promising entrepreneurs presented their idea before the jury consisting of Kasia Blicharz (Deloitte), Dorianne Richelle (Facebook), Ilse van Gasteren (Clifford Chance), Nhi Phan (TEDxAmsterdamWomen), Cara Antoine (Microsoft) and Tineke Bakker – van der Veen (Boeing). And, three winners from the semi-finals have been shortlisted for the finals to take place on December 6, 2018. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the promising startups which made it to the finals.

Chantal van der Velde & Graciëlla van Hamersveld (Closure)

Closure founders Chantal van der Velde & Graciëlla van Hamersveld are among the finalists of TEDxAmsterdam Women. The Rotterdam startup is a digital platform that lets users cancel all the subscriptions from telephone subscription to social media accounts in one place or transfer it to a different user. This will save a lot of time and expenses. The service costs €99 and is touted to save €130 a month on an average based on the current subscription charges. Especially, this service is useful when it comes to cancelling the digital subscriptions of a deceased loved one.

Ivana Setiawan (Venopi)

Venopi founded in 2015 by Ivana Setiawan is an online marketplace for sharing rooms. It lets people rent their spaces for anyone so that they earn a second income. Indirectly, it strengthens the local entrepreneurs letting them actively contribute to the sharing economy.

Diem Do (CodeGorilla)

CodeGorilla founded in 2016 with its headquarters in Emmen offers the unemployed and other aspiring programmers an opportunity to learn the necessary skills to get a job in the IT sector in a boot camp of 4 months. It facilitates job placement between the employer and employee. It is basically a training method that teaches everyone to code irrespective of their gender, educational background and origin.

Regarding the TEDxAmsterdam Women Startup Award, Marian Spier, Founder TEDxAmsterdamWomen stated “The TEDxAmsterdamWomen Startup Award is a great success. We offer female starting entrepreneurs a platform that gives them more visibility and an influential network through our partners are offered to scale up their business as quickly as possible. The success has led us to receive a European European Entrepreneurship Prize from the European Union for the Startup Award this year. ”

And, Nhi Phan, Head of Startup Award stated, “We also see success in the number of registrations that increase every year. Due to the increasing popularity of the Startup Award, we started with the online web series, where everyone can follow the full Startup Award journey. ”
