Last update:

Thailand-based Eko, a mobile-first communications platform, raised €17.6 million in the Series B financing round from the venture capital wing of Sinar Mas Group, one of Indonesia’s largest organisation controlled by the Widjaja family. Also, it has zeroed in on the city of Amsterdam to set up its European headquarters. Further, their application is now also available in Dutch.

Finn McClain, the American Dutchman that is leading Eko in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe, explains the choice for Amsterdam: “Amsterdam is perfect for us. After working for years for several companies in Silicon Valley, I returned to Amsterdam a few years ago. I actually feel the same vibe as in the heydays of the Valley. Amsterdam is the tech hub of Europe, with lots of talent, other inspiring scaleups and a climate that stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship. Hence, this is the right place for Eko to realise expansion. We’re now working hard to attract new staff.”

What is Eko?

With a mobile workforce, Eko is a one-of-a-kind collaboration and communications platform for businesses. Eko users are provided with a host of easy-to-use functionalities, including communication, business process, project and knowledge management. The company has already stretched its wings across Bangkok, London, Berlin and New York. Eko’s concept is likened to popular messaging apps Line or WhatsApp, which will also prove to be its competitors.

Here are the three highlights that make Eko shine in the crowd!

Eko is synonymous to easy

Korawad Chearavanont, CEO and founder of Ekom, iterates that unlike other digital communication platforms that are suitable for people with a desk-based job, Eko provides easy digital contact with the employees. The platform is easy to use and is an ideal pick for the company’s mobile employees. Eko positively affects a business’ efficiency, productivity and employee engagement.

Korawad comes from an affluent background. His grandfather Dhanin Chearavanont is senior chairman of Charoen Pokphand Group and one of Thailand’s richest men.

Accommodates various business needs

With over half a million recurring paid users, Eko covers a variety of sectors, including retail, hospitality, banking, and other service-based industries, mostly in Asia. The huge potential and growing demand have led Eko to expand its roots in the European market where it is already engaged in test-collaborations with many of the region’s largest businesses under the leadership of Finn McClain, an American Dutchman.

The mobile-centric feature

Having a user base of businesses that promote the mobile-first approach, Eko’s platform is helping its users to solve mobile-oriented issues like catering staff, retail employees or mechanics. The company is providing a secure and user-friendly platform for employees and management to communicate and collaborate in real time. The existing consumer applications, like WhatsApp and Telegram, create security, confidentiality and GDPR issues to which Eko is the solution.
