The sustainable Amsterdam delivery platform Bringly has started a pickup service for marketplace for user where buyers can get their purchased picked up and delivered the same day. Bike couriers will pick-up the marketplace purchase in the afternoon at the seller and deliver it in the evening between 18:00 and 22:00 at the buyer. This way users have a less of a hassle, don’t need to leave the door and it get delivered in a sustainable way.
As of today online marketplace users can use the Bringly website to use bike couriers to pick-up their marketplace purchase the same evening between 14:00 and 17:00 and have it to them delivered between 18:00 and 22:00. The pilot is aimed at both consumers and local shops which are active on online marketplace. It’s suitable for all items that fit in a cargo bike.
Bringly is a platform that connects local shops and consumers with bike couriers – that are already on their way – to deliver items CO2 neutral and deliver it the same day. The short delivery distances between local retailers and consumers are often ideal for a bike courier, but a delivery van is still often used for this. To reduce CO2 emissions, Bringly joins forces with various professional bike courier companies.

We’re extremely happy with this service, because second-hand items must be as easy to purchase as new products. Second-hand trade is an important part of the circular economy because of longer product cycles, less waste and less CO2 emissions. Yet consumers often continue to buy new products from large webshops because of the convenience, security and fast delivery. During this pilot, you now also have these aspects for second-hand trade on marketplaces, without having to leave the house.
Recent research by research firm CE Delft shows that second-hand trade via Marktplaats.nl results in 600 million to 1 billion kilos less CO2 emissions annually.
According to Laigsingh, this service for marketplace users stimulates this development:
This pickup service makes it easier and faster to buy second-hand stuff through online marketplaces. For an amount of €6,95 – you can leave the car and bus – and get your second-hand purchase delivered to your home the same evening.
The seller and buyer at online marketplaces themselves coordinate when they are at home and enter the required date on the website. This pilot is currently only available during the week and within the Amsterdam ring. The pickup service is only available via the Bringly website. The Bringly app does not participate in this pilot, but remains available for local Amsterdam retailers to deliver from their physical store.
