Uber app integrates real-time schedule of public transport in London: Here’s why!

Since the advent of cab-hailing apps like Uber, getting to your destination on time was never easier. While Uber already offers a slew of options to choose from to suit a user’s needs, the app is going a step further with a new addition. The company has announced that it will now display real-time public transport information in its Uber app, in London.

This new addition is perceived to be the company’s efforts on becoming a one-stop solution when it comes to transportation. This new feature is now available for Londoners. They can now who can boot up the app and enter a destination to find a Public Transport option alongside the regular Uber offerings.

What’s new in Uber’s new Public Transport service

As mentioned above, one will be shown a Public Transport option besides the option to avail standard Uber cabs. This new option will display real-time information of London Underground, bus, shuttle, riverboat, light rail, train, tram, and commuter rail service across Greater London. This information will include schedules and directions as well. While there’s no option to purchase tickets and fares for these services via the Uber app yet, the company says it will offer the option at a later date.

“London is home to the world’s most iconic public transport network, and we’re excited to now provide live transit information in the Uber app,” says Jamie Heywood, Uber’s regional general manager for Northern and Eastern Europe, in a media release. “Over time, it’s our goal to help people replace their car with their phone by offering a range of mobility options — whether cars, bikes or public transport — all in the Uber app.”

London is now the second city where Uber has rolled out the option to display public transit information on its app. Denver, Colorado in the US was the first city where Uber rolled out this service.
