More and more European cities are moving towards green and sustainable transportations. Thanks to electric vehicles! In fact, Europeโ€™s progress in its commitment to fight climate change has benefited lots of companies. One such company to make use of this is none other than Uber.

A few months back, the American tech giant Uber, well known for its car-ride-sharing business model, announced its electric bicycles operations in Brussels.

JUMP service debuts in Brussels!

Uber has started its JUMP service in Brussels early last week with 500 electric bikes appearing across Brussels City, Saint-Gilles, Ixelles, Etterbeek, Sint-Joost-ten-Node and Schaerbeek.

How does it work?

Talking about the payment, the normal rate is โ‚ฌ1 to unlock the bike and then โ‚ฌ0,15 per minute spent on the bike. The bikes can be reserved via the Uber app.

“The centre of Brussels can be challenging to navigate smoothly,” says Nicholas Van de Loock, General Manager of JUMP Belgium. “With the integration of JUMP in our current range, we can offer solutions to ease commuting and help users in the search for alternative and sustainable transport,” he added.

Bright front light, strong brakes, and other safety features!

For the uninitiated, JUMP creates on-demand electric bikes and scooters designed by expert teams in Brooklyn and San Francisco keeping future of transportation and the cities in mind. ย The powerful electric bikes are built with a bright front electric light, strong brakes, and other safety features. Notably, it is best known for operating dockless, pedal-assist bikes.

โ€œJUMP is not the first provider of electric bicycle sharing in Brussels, but it is the first with a license,” says Nikolaas Van de Loock, general manager of JUMP Belgium.

Uber acquired JUMP!

About a year ago, Uber acquired bike-sharing startup JUMP for an undisclosed amount of money. According to the company, the decision to sell JUMP to Uber came as a part of making operation at a large scale in a quicker way

Park anywhere!

The bicycles have no fixed locations and can be parked anywhere within the zone. The electric bikes have the motor in the front wheel and go up to 25 kilometres per hour.

Brussels Mobility Minister Pascal Smet, said, โ€œNow we still have to make customers aware not to leave bicycles on footpaths and to take pedestrians into account. But it is not the bikes that are the problem in Brussels. It’s the cars, of which there are far too many. โ€

Interchangeable batteries!

The batteries of the bicycles are interchangeable, which means that JUMP can guarantee that the bicycles are always available with sufficient battery level. The batteries are charged with green electricity and employees with electric cargo bikes are responsible for changing the batteries.
