Like any other industry, logistics is going through a significant change as digitisation takes hold, and customer expectations evolve. At present, both individuals and businesses expect to get goods faster with more flexibility, and at low or no delivery cost. The race is on to define the industry’s future, and many startups are shaking up the sector already.
Based out of Utrecht, the Netherlands, Packaly is one among them. The Dutch startup is a last-mile delivery service that tends to cover the last-mile a little bit differently.
Delivers package in 60 minutes
As per the company, it lets retailers deliver their packages to their customers within 60 minutes, the same evening or the next day to the end consumer, directly from the store or local stock in a 100 percent climate-neutral way.
Raised funding
In the latest development, the Utrecht-based logistical tech company has raised new funding from TCIM and two other industry experts. However, the company didn’t disclose the exact funding figures. This funding follows the €150K seed round investment from A-players in Deventer back in 2019.
Packaly will use the funding to support its Dutch and international growth ambitions. The company aims to extend its services in 2021, create more flexible jobs, increase capacity in all cities, and introduce more retailers to the ship-from-store method of working.
How Packaly was born?
The three founders came up with the idea while walking through the busy shopping streets of the city, noticing that products that were close by were often delivered within 1 to 2 days. And thus born Packaly with a mission of “making 60 minutes the norm.”
Expansion on cards
In the past year, Packaly has expanded to ten new cities, and it expects to start operating in ten additional cities in the upcoming year.
“In the past months, we’ve seen an incredible increase in shipments with the ten cities we serve. We’ve seen significant growth from forward-thinking retailers who are looking to create a new shopping experience for both online and offline channels. We onboarded new clients like Lush and Neleman that are adjusting to ship-from-store incredibly fast,” says Axel Dekker, CEO Packaly.
Incredible growth in 2020
The Dutch company Packaly says that it has seen an incredible increase in deliveries over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Founded by Adrik Elzing, Axel Dekker, and Niels Nijhof in 2018, the company is currently active in Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam, Amstelveen, Eindhoven, Tilburg, Amersfoort, and Maastricht. It started its delivery service in Amsterdam in March 2020.
The company is currently working with supermarkets, book stores, sports retailers, local fashion outlets, among others.
The company claims that CO2 neutral shipping is part of its DNA. “With our focus on using local resources in a city to deliver products from a store/hub to customers directly, we reduce the impact of last-mile delivery CO2 emissions and city congestions,” says the company.
Partnership with Bringly
Last year the company partnered with Bringly to start the sustainable delivery collective #UnlockRetail. The partnership helps small and large retailers during COVID-19 to still be able to reach their local customers. Besides, the company also partnered with Paazl, Decathalon, and others.
