Zenchef | Formitable Group, a company formed by the merger of Paris-based Zenchef and Amsterdam-based Formitable, announced that it has acquired Dutch-Belgian online reservation platform Resengo.
The acquisition is a significant step towards the company becoming the top European player in restaurant technology. The acquisition is supported by growth equity firm PSG Equity.
By acquiring Resengo, a frontrunner in online reservations in Belgium, Zenchef | Formitable now incorporates more than 3,500 restaurants into its platform. It includes renowned establishments like RIJKS in Amsterdam, The Jane in Antwerp, and all Belgian three-star restaurants.
This expansion solidifies the group’s position as one of the largest restaurant platforms in Europe. It boasts an extensive network of over 15,000 restaurants.
“The acquisition of Resengo is a game-changer. With this acquisition, we further our core mission to help restaurants thrive by deepening connections between restaurants and guests,” says Xavier Zeitoun, CEO at Zenchef | Formitable.
“It is a key step in our vision to build a more resilient restaurant industry with technology that empowers restaurateurs against commission-based third-party software,” he adds.
Fostering support and connection
The Resengo team will unite with the existing 200+ employees at Zenchef | Formitable. It will also combine forces that bring localised knowledge from offices in Paris, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Copenhagen, Berlin, and Lisbon.
The group will provide top-tier Restaurant Tech solutions and a consumer app. It will extend its support to Resengo’s clients. Zeitoun believes they would provide strong support and meaningful connections for restaurateurs and guests.
“For many years, I have admired how Dirk and the Resengo team have strengthened the restaurant industry in Belgium and the Netherlands. Together, we are poised to provide even stronger support to restaurateurs and create meaningful connections for guests across Europe. This is how we maintain our local expertise in target markets,” says Zeitoun.
In addition, Resengo CEO Dirk Gypen is also confident about the acquisition. He noted that Zenchef | Formitable will strengthen its mission.
“From Resengo’s inception two decades ago, our primary objective has been to assist restaurant owners in maximising their occupancy and elevating the guest experience throughout the entire customer journey — from discovery to booking, and then returning back,” says Gypen.
“Our aim is to empower restaurants to capitalise on opportunities stemming from their existing customer base, reducing reliance on external platforms. We’re thrilled and honoured to join Zenchef | Formitable, as they echo our mission,” adds Gypen.
Commitment to service
In January 2023, Zenchef and Formitable — leaders in the French and Dutch restaurant platform sectors — combined forces to create a dominant European presence in Restaurant Tech.
This strategic alliance has pooled their top-tier expertise, industry knowledge, and cutting-edge technology. Both were driven by a mutual commitment to innovation and exceptional service.
Today, the unified entity serves a vast clientele of more than 15,000 businesses throughout Europe. As a collective, the group is dedicated to fostering a more resilient restaurant industry. It aims to forge stronger connections between restaurants and diners.
Through its innovative technology, Zenchef | Formitable claims it facilitates seamless interaction. The group developed a platform that empowers guest relationship management. It also elevates the dining experience without charging commissions.
