Amsterdam to get another cool coworking space for tech startups: The Next Web to open second TQ in South

Looks like leading digital media company from Amsterdam, TNW (The Next Web) has some big goals for the year 2019. It was just last week when TNW got acquired by Financial Times.

Now, this week, the news has come in that the global media brand has announced the opening of its second co-TQ building (which is a co-working space for tech startups) in Amsterdam South. This is the second TQ location that lets tech companies grow. TQ South will be opened in May 2019 and will occupy the Tripolis together with TNW, it’s founding company and partner FLOW Real Estate. The first TQ building was opened in 2016 in the heart of Amsterdam and we also featured the building in our best coworking spaces in Amsterdam list.

Founded in 2016, TQ in cooperation with Booking.com, Google, KPMG and ABN AMRO, quickly became a flourishing tech hub. It became home for over 200 companies after the first year including American companies such as Flexport, Stripe and Ring, which was acquired by Amazon for over $1 billion and Dutch startups such as Tripaneer and Homerun.

Second TQ location

The opening of the second location is to address the growing demand for office space within the tech startup and scaleup community. The work for the opening of TQ South in May is still going on. This is the initial step taken as a part of the ambitious Tripolis project as the second phase will debut in 2022.

Sophie Op den Kamp, TQ’s Managing Director, comments: “Our first TQ opened in 2016 and was at full capacity only a year later. We soon realized that we needed more room for ourselves as well as our residents, so opening a second hub was the obvious next step. The new space will allow us to expand our offering, now supporting fast-growing tech companies further through their journey. TQ South also offers a perfect crossroad for tech talent and bigger corporates to connect and innovate together.”

As Op den Kamp explained, “TQ South is an opportunity to grow the tech community and build even more meaningful lasting partnerships in the ecosystem. We’re expecting Tripolis to become a flourishing area, buzzing with tech, innovation, and a diverse crowd of professionals.”

Tripolis is a set of three distinct structures designed by Aldo van Eyck, a Dutch architect. The building will feature generous offices for scaleups, a Corporate Innovation Lab at the top-floor and a dedicated work area for the startups in the nascent stage. This TQ hub can be used by corporates and governments to exhibit new technologies and conduct innovation challenges.

Affordable residency options

Besides the business front, TQ South and City will provide affordable residency options as well for the early-stage startups involved in the shared office environment. There will be dedicated desks for the teams and residents can find an encouraging place to grow their ideas and tap into the international market. They will also get convenient facilities such as meeting rooms, parking, lockers, private phone booths, events arena and mail handling in the TQ City.
