Belgian startups Qover and Cowboy team up for seamless e-bike insurance: Here’s what it means for riders

Last update:

Belgian startup Cowboy develops innovative electric bikes for urban riders. The mission of this company is to improve urban mobility and enable commuters travel in a more sustainable, enjoyable and efficient manner. Cowboy’s electric bikes are lightweight as these are integrated with lights, intuitive gear-shifting, hydraulic brakes, an app and a removable battery.

In a recent development, the electric bike startup has partnered with Qover, a Brussels-based insurtech startup providing Insurance-as-a-Service for digital businesses to provide a groundbreaking connected insurance coverage to its riders.

Seamless insurance experience

Cowboy was founded in 2017 by startup entrepreneurs Adrien Roose, Karim Slaoui and Tanguy Goretti. It focuses on delivering an elevated user experience. After conducting extensive market research, Qover chose NN Insurance Services NV to be the best insurance partner for the innovative mobility startup.

Two protection packages!

All Cowboy riders can access the “Easy Rider Basic” plan for free with the “Find My Bike” feature. Those who want additional features and are concerned about the safety of their bikes can choose any of the two protection packages – Easy Rider Standard and Easy Rider Plus.

Easy Rider Standard priced at €8 per month provides insurance coverage against theft. If the bike is stolen, then owners will get a voucher for a new bike so that they enjoy uninterrupted mobility. Also, filing a claim with this package is easy. All the owner has to do is scan a copy of the police report and fill a short form online using the Cowboy app.

Easy Rider Plus costing €10 per month provides damage insurance in case of a crash or vandalism apart from theft insurance. Customers who have chosen this plan will get faster access to customer support and will be given priority whenever they need any help related to their bike.

What’s included?

Both these packages come with a real-time notification feature. It will alert them as soon as the bike is moved without the owner being near it. This way, the potential theft of the bike is prevented effectively. Notably, the Easy Rider Basic complimentary package does not include theft detection notifications, theft insurance, damage insurance and quick customer support.

Pan-European connected insurance

Cowboy operates in four markets including Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. The insurance packages will be sold initially in Belgium and the Netherlands. The other markets will follow quickly.

“We want Cowboy to be a constant companion of our customers in their urban lives, and we want them to feel safe and comfortable and protected on their journey,” said Adrien Roose, CEO and co-founder of Cowboy. “Our teams worked closely together to make this happen. Qover has proven to be a true partner that perfectly understands our business needs,” Roose continued.

Qover eyes expansion in Europe

Founded in 2016 by Jean-Charles Velge and Quentin Colmant, Qover builds its own insurance products and also makes these products available via open APIs in real-time. Recently, Qover raised €8 million to accelerate its European expansion. Already, 50,000 people across eight European countries have opted for Qover’s insurance products and services.
