Kumbaya: California-based startup opens new head office in The Hague, aims to resolve gaps in rural connectivity

At the leading tech conference, Mobile World Congress 2019 held in Barcelona, Kumbaya Inc., an IT company based in California announced the opening of a new head office in The Hague. The thriving business ecosystem of The Hague has made Kumbaya open its new European office in this city.

Previously, at MWC 2017, Kumbaya had a meeting with The Hague Business Agency and learned of the environment in the city for businesses to have a global social impact. Also, the company learned that can have a multitude of opportunities with its expansion in the Netherlands.

Why The Hague?

The Hague runs a program called ImpactCity on impact economy. This program is designed to facilitate businesses that working towards realising a better world to scale up by providing them with an impact and comprehensive business and investment network.

In 2018, THBA set up a fact-finding trip for the company to join one of the biggest festivals for impact makers in Europe, ‘Impact Startup fest’ initiative of ImpactCity. Kumbaya joined the same as a delegate and collaborated with The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency office located in San Francisco, which is a tailor-made program. This program was created with the intention to assist Kumbaya with the necessary details to open its office in The Hague.

Kumbaya was founded in 2016 by Mike Freni in California. Currently, the company is prepping to kickstart trials to resolve rural connectivity black sports with its zeroXess Solar-Powered Communications and IoT Solutions Hub located in Malawi and Ghana. Notably, the company intends to connect as many as 15,000 households in 2019 in order to test its technology.
