Preventing water leak is a huge issue and happens more often in homes and small building than fires, natural disasters or burglaries. In this case, most water damages happen from leaking or bursting pipes or other plumbing issues throughout the home.
Having said that, a leak detection technology can improve the ability of water utilities to respond in a jiff and repair leaks. Many house owners like to take advantage of smart home technologies to prevent water damage.
Hero Labs secured £2.5 million!
In a recent development, a London-based startup Hero Labs has secured £2.5 million in seed funding round. This funding round was led by Earthworm Group, an environmental fund manager, with further support via a £300,000 EU innovation grant and several unnamed private investors as well.
According to the company, the recent funding will be to accelerate the development of its first product – Sonic, which is disrupting the smart-tech industry.
Krystian Zajac, founder and CEO of Hero Labs, said:
This funding marks a successful first chapter for Hero Labs. Having Earthworm Group as our leading investor is a great fit for us, as it only invests in businesses who are a force for social good or benefiting the environment.
What is Sonic?
In general, leaks create more damage to properties in the UK than any other cause – costing UK insurers £1 billion a year. In an attempt to avoid it, the company has come up with a smart leak defence system.
Fitted easily under the sink, Sonic is the first product in the UK to use ultrasonic technology to monitor and spot water use and leak using AI algorithms. Sonic’s patent-pending technology can measure flow rates as low as 10ml per minute.
Upon spotting, it sends an alert in seconds via the Sonic app and it can automatically shut off the water supply to prevent a water leak damaging possessions and property. In addition to it, the app also helps people conserve water by giving them helpful hints and tips about appliances using the most water.
Public release later this year!
Sonic uses advanced AI algorithms to learn your habits and understand the difference between normal water use and harmful water leaks. The company is planning a full public release of Sonic for later this year, targeting consumers and small businesses.
Zajac said:
Our mission at Hero Labs is to solve real-life problems through tech, and combating water leaks with Sonic is just the tip of the iceberg. This will allow us to bring even more solutions to consumers and businesses.
Samples water up to 86,000 times!
Interestingly, the smart defence technology samples the water supply up to 86,000 times a day to detect problems. Furthermore, there is a HeroLink radio that lets Sonic communicate wirelessly over up to 300 meters, or through eight concrete floors.
Hero Labs – Headsup!
Based out of London, Hero Labs uses cutting-edge technology to combat water leaks in UK homes and businesses. It was founded by Krystian Zajac, who launched the UK’s first smart home insurer, Neos.
Will Brocklebank, Head of Projects and Partnerships at Earthworm said:
Earthworm invests in businesses that will bring a positive change for the environment. This is why we chose to support Hero Labs, as we believe it is one of the most exciting companies in this space that will have a real impact on reducing water waste in the UK. Hero Labs has a huge potential to grow to address a pressing environmental issue.
