Startup competitions have become something that happens every other week in countries with a more or less well-developed entrepreneurial ecosystem. Not all of them are born equal, and not all of them can bring as much value for participating teams. There are, however, some great contests that we can wholeheartedly recommend—like Tech5, which is now open for applications for startups from the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
Revenue growth is what matters
Organised by The Next Web and famous Dutch scale-up Adyen, Tech5 celebrates the fastest growing startups across Europe. Unlike many other competitions, you don’t have to pitch your project here. The only parameter used for ranking the applicants is their revenue growth between 2014 and 2016. In order to be eligible to enter the competition, a startup must’ve made at least €200,000 in revenue in 2014. In addition to that, it has to be founded in 2011 or later and build and market its own product or service.
Apply, dine, present at TNW 2017, and win if you’re lucky
Applications for startups are open until March 1, 2017. When applying, startups don’t have to fill in their actual revenue numbers, but only their growth rate in percent points. To give you some context, last year’s local winners had growth numbers ranging from 1,000 percent to 8,000 percent. In March and April, Tech5 will organise local dinner events in each country to announce the five -that’s actually why they call it Tech5 – fastest-growing companies in each country. First place winners in each country will get a ticket to TNW Conference in Amsterdam on May 18-19, 2017, where they will present on stage in front of 15,000 people. One of the six local winners will get to win the main award for the fastest-growing company.
