Utrecht-based Circ Energy, a green tech company, announced on Monday that it has raised undisclosed capital in its third funding round from Dali Invest.

Circ Energy says it will use the funds to accelerate the development of its BioTransformer technology and to facilitate further expansion into European markets.

“We are proud and happy with this new investment from Dali Invest and want to thank them for their support and belief in our mission,” says Spencer Schols, CEO of Circ.

Dali Invest is a small privately owned company that claims to invest in large ideas, startups, and early-stage companies.

Circ Energy: Accelerating energy transition

Led by Spencer Schols (CEO), Circ Energy is a green tech company that aims to accelerate the energy transition in areas where the challenges are the greatest: the built environment.

“We started Circ four years ago to make the world a better place. Worldwide, more fossil energy is being used, while 40 per cent of produced food is discarded and burned as waste. This is a misuse of valuable resources, and we wanted to do something about it,” says Schols.

While transitioning away from natural gas is not always feasible, the company believes that replacing it with biogas is a viable alternative.

Circ’s BioTransformer technology is a smart, small-scale digester that generates sustainable energy through the natural process of anaerobic digestion.

“Using modern technology, software, and artificial intelligence, we have developed a BioTransformer that converts vegetable, fruit, and food waste into biogas and biowater. With the development of our photo recognition software in the BioTransformer, we help users reduce food waste,” says Schols.

“For the inevitable residual streams that remain, we offer a working and sustainable alternative to waste. This way, we make companies aware of the precious raw material they can put to use by generating sustainable energy,” adds Schols

With a processing capacity of 50-600 kg per day, the BioTransformer offers a local solution to energy generation while reducing the consumption of fossil fuels.

Additionally, the biowater produced as a by-product serves as organic plant food, promoting healthy and fertile soil.
