Now you can report an accident or a traffic congestion on Google Maps

Traffic congestion around the world is rising and becoming an unavoidable factor in large and growing metropolitan cities. A lot of navigation companies are working towards curbing traffic jams and one such attempt is Google’s speed traps and accidents feature.

Now report speed traps and accidents on the go!

Earlier this year, Google Maps rolled out speed limits in navigation along with showing speed traps and accidents too. Right now, Google Maps is rolling out the enhanced incident-reporting feature to help give drivers an easier time on the road. This feature is rolling out across globe currently.

Offers alternate route!

Similar to navigation app Waze, Google Maps let user report accidents and speed traps while navigating to their destinations. Notably, Google acquired the navigation app Waze six years ago. Incorporating this new feature makes it more efficient considering the fact, Google will be able to share real-time updates about congestion causing events.

Android only?

At present, the feature is available only on Android devices, and it is more likely to come to the iOS platform as well. For the uninitiated, Google has been testing out the feature for quite some time dating all the way back to last year’s summer. Having said that, the company further refined the interface towards the end of winter before the stable roll out.

Add a report!

Talking about the usage,  there is a dedicated ‘Add a report’ function that brings the option to report speed traps and accidents, while using the Gmaps app.

How does it work?

Step 1: While navigating to your destination, swipe up from the arrow from the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Tap on ‘Add a report.’

Step 3: Upon tapping, users can report Google directly about a crash or a speed trap you’ve encountered on your route.

NOTE: It’s worth mentioning here that the new feature is only visible once you start the navigation on Google Maps.
