Gone are the days, when the fitness industry was just confined to neighbourhood gyms. The industry has transformed itself completely and with a high level of technology adoption, the fitness companies are transmuting and entering in the next phase.
Especially in the Netherlands, with several new fitness startups bringing in AI, VR and mobile technology in the segment, this industry has changed forever and there’s no looking back.
At Silicon Canals, we have come up with a list of innovative fitness startups in the Netherlands. These Dutch startups offer techniques that let them set apart from the others.
#1 Onefit
Onefit popularly known as the ‘Netflix’ of gyms was founded in 2013 by Serge Brabander and Camille Richardson. It is a digital membership program that provides access to the coolest workouts in the town. You can choose from hot yoga to fitness training, anything that gets you totally pumped up. You can choose the time, the place and a friend to carry out the workout via the Onefit app and sign up for a yearly contract.
Meanwhile, Onefit has received a funding of €5.2 million from Peak Capital – €900k of seed funding and €4.3 million in Series A funding. Further, OneFit plans to use the funding for product innovation and to launch its service in more European countries initially starting with Germany.
#2 Virtuagym
A single-room startup to a scaleup with more than 200 employees across offices in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and MedellÃn, Colombia – Virtuagym – has seen success from the very first day the company came into existence.
Virtuagym was founded by brothers Paul and Hugo Braam in 2009 and has received €8.9 million funding on the whole. In a recent development, Virtuagym closed the Series B financing of €6 million.
Basically, Virtuagym app is a personal trainer in your pocket. This app lets you track and monitor your activity. The app is available for iOS and Android devices. All you need to do is just set your goal and work out, eat or plan accordingly. It also provides you with appointment scheduling, personal messaging and nutrition tools.
#3 Fysio24
Based in the Netherlands, Fysio24 was founded in 2015. This startup has transformed the concept of physiotherapy altogether.
The Fysio24 app differentiates itself from the rest in the fitness space as it has one of the bestIw injury prevention and recovery programs in the country. There are interesting programs such as race preparation, race recovery and running after delivery. It is soon to get new programs like 7-minute workout, core stability, runners knee injury, whiplash injury and more. Fysio24 has received funding from Rockstart but the exact amount of funding remains undisclosed.
#4 Relive
Based in Rotterdam, Relive is a 3D visual storytelling platform for outdoor activities. Founded in 2011,it lets you relive your outdoor adventures and turn your rides and runs into 3D video stories. This is possible with the data collected from GPS and satellite imaging during your ride or run. You can share your adventures and give it your personal touch. The app will add animation to the video and add the photos you have taken. As of now, Relive has raised around €1.2 million Euros and planning to raise more money in future. At present, roughly 10,000 people have opted for the Relive premium subscription with a rate of €9/month.
#5 Fitmo
Based in Amsterdam, Fitmo was founded in 2009 with an aim to bring long-term health changes in the community through heathcare, fitness and nutrition. It is a mobile app that lets you connect with the health and fitness coaches across the world. It makes this possible by letting you connect with a perfect mentor for your requirements irrespective of their location. The startup received a funding of €1.6 million via 3 rounds of seed funding.
