Amsterdam innovation event
The Amsterdam Science & Innovation Award is a collaborative initiative of the Amsterdam universities, academic medical centers, universities for applied sciences and research institutes and will take place for the twelfth time this year. Over the years the event has become a true and comprehensive test of scientific innovation, open to all researchers and students in the Amsterdam Metropole region. Its purpose is to make the knowledge and innovations of the Amsterdam universities and research centres more visible and bring them a step closer to society.
For researchers and students it also is an excellent opportunity to assess the impact of their ideas through interaction with companies and other professionals. Since its start this award has presented over 300 innovative and implementable ideas. Many of them have led to practical applications and even formed the basis for new companies.
From idea to invention
The entrepreneurship of the participants is becoming increasingly important; their ideas must not only fulfill needs in society but also be practically implementable. One part of the event is the Science & Business matchmaking program in which participants are coupled with companies, public organizations and investors. In the run up to the finale on June 21st companies will be approached and matched by their business (strategy) to the contestants most relevant for them. On the day of the event the participants and companies are brought into contact with each other.
