Storro, the Twente-based cybersecurity startup that allows users to create secure spaces to collaborate with colleagues and external parties in only a few mouse clicks, won the Equinix shark tank last week. Storro received praise for the fact that the tool makes sharing data within teams easier and safer. The prize was awarded by Constantijn van Oranje, special envoy of StartupDelta.

Storro: blockchain-based P2P application

Storro’s innovative character lies in the fact that it is a blockchain-based peer-to-peer application. “Storro allows team members to work together without using the cloud or any other central component,” says Daniel Weststeijn, Sales Officer at Storro. “Our tool uses advanced encryption and stores data decentralized amongst the users of a collaborative group. This makes it impossible for third parties to get readable information without permission.”

International ambitions

As winner of the Equinix shark tank contest, Storro receives access to Equinix data centers for a full year, a study trip to Silicon Valley, a year of support by an Equinix Solution Architect and various agreements with Silicon Valley investors. Equinix’ goal is to promote Storro’s digital business and to ensure that its current national success is rolled out in the rest of the world.

Largest data center

The contest was organized by Equinix, StartupAmsterdam, StartupDelta and DutchBasecamp and coincided with the opening of the Equinix data center AM4, which is the largest data center at Amsterdam Science Park. Each contestant had seven minutes to convince the jury of their current success in the Netherlands and the opportunities for international expansion. The jury consisted of Peter van Camp – Executive Chairman of Equinix, Gary Hromadko – Venture Capital & Private Equity Professional at Crosslink Capital and Michiel Eielts, Managing Director of Equinix Benelux. Together with Constantijn van Oranje, the special envoy of StartupDelta, they announced Storro as the winner.
