Last update:

Recently, Kaia Health, a digital therapeutics company focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) has pulled in €8.8 million in a Series A round led by Balderton Capital.

A better replacement?

Back pain in young people is in a rise, say experts. In fact, lower back pain (LBP) is the second most common cause of disability in the US.

While specific painkillers and injections can reduce some pain, Konstantin Mehl and Innocent Clement had some better ideas to cure with nothing more than an app and smartphone/tablets.

Uses AI to create a digital approach!

For the uninitiated, Kaia health uses artificial intelligence and apps along with the guidance of experts in each medical field to develop an interdisciplinary digital approach.

To be more specific, the app offers an interactive, multimodal therapy for two chronic conditions: back pain and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Based out of Germany, the company will use this fund to maintain Kaia Health’s rollout in the US, including an office in New York and fund clinical studies. Moreover, Mehl wants to flip the current usage ratio of 80% Europe; 20% U.S. The company raised €720,000 million in a seed round back in June 2016.

Founded in 2015, by Konstantin Mehl (New York), Manuel Thurner (Germany), and Moritz Philipp Weisbrodt (Munich), Kaia Health creates evidence-based treatments for a range of disorders including back pain, Parkinson’s disease, osteoarthritis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Available on both Android and iOS!

Notably, the Kaia health app has already been downloaded by over 250,000 users along with other organisations across Europe and the US. The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms as well. Having said that, the company also warns the users saying, it is not a replacement for medical treatment, and the user takes sole responsibility for the app’s usage.
