Hadean, a London-based startup has announced that it has raised $10 million funding. The funding round was led by Draper Esprit along with participation from Aster and London Venture Partners, a specialist gaming investor. Also, the existing investors such as Entrepreneur First and Luminous Ventures took part in the funding round.

World’s first cloud operating system

Founded in 2015 by Alec Mocatta and Rashid Mansoor, Hadean has built HadeanOS, the world’s first cloud operating system. It has redesigned the technology stack completely letting software engineers write, ship and scale their applications to any size without layers of middleware, resource strain and high rates of failure. HadeanOS lets developers give life to their ambitious applications.

Besides HadeanOS, the London startup has also built a distributed simulation engine called Aether Engine. This is being used by the Francis Crick Institute to simulate complex and large models of protein-protein interactions. It lets novel binding sites tackle diseases such as cancer. Even the renowned gaming studio CCP Games has come up with Hadean on EVE: Aether Wars, which is a 10,000-player experience that will create a record for involving the most number of players in a single online battle.

Hadean will host a talk titled “The Tech Driving The Future of Multiplayer” at the opening of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on March 20. It will offer an extensive first look at the Aether Engine to the global audience.

“Technology companies today are hampered by their ability to scale their platforms to meet demand and exploit data,” said Craig Beddis, Hadean’s Co-Founder and CEO. “Our technology, which was derived from first principles, eliminates the significant manpower and time wasted on engineering and DevOps. I am excited to have an investor of the calibre of Draper Esprit on board, with its proven track record in deep tech investment leading this round.’’

“New technologies to enable developers to build applications that can scale in the cloud are sorely needed,” said Simon Cook, CEO Draper Esprit. “As technology advances in areas such as AI, blockchain and simulation, the complexity of the current software stack will only trip us up. Hadean have ripped up the rule book and redesigned the architecture from scratch. Their technology has been developed by world-class engineers and we are delighted to be partnering alongside Craig, Rashid and the rest of the team.”
