After a long mill of rumours, the social media giant Facebook has launched its dating service in the United States to challenge the established tech giants in the industry including Tinder, Bumble and Match.com. On top of that, the social media platform is giving people the ability to integrate their Instagram posts directly into their Facebook Dating profile and to add Instagram followers to their Secret Crush lists.

Available in 20 countries!

With this launch in the US, Facebook dating service is available in 20 countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vietnam. Facebook is planning to roll out the dating service in Europe by early 2020.

Safety, Security, and Privacy!

According to the social media giant, safety, security, and privacy are at the forefront of this product. Furthermore, this dating service includes the ability to report and block anyone; prohibiting people from sending photos, links, payments, or videos in messages.

How to roll in Facebook Dating service?

If Facebook dating services is available in your area, you’ll be able to access ‘Dating’ from the menu screen itself. Most importantly, people who have opted into the dating service will be able to view others dating profile. Creating a Facebook dating profile is simple and follows a comprehensive set of processes like Tinder and Bumble.

Step 1: Select your gender and the genders of who you want to be matched with.

Step 2: Confirm your dating location, upload a brief bio of 500 characters or less.

Step 3: Once all the information is entered, you can review and confirm it.

Step 4: Your Facebook Dating profile is now ready!

In case if you want to delete the account, you can do it from the Dating Settings screen.

Comment or like to show interest!

People are suggested based on your preferences, interests, and other things you do on Facebook. To convey interest, users can either comment directly on their profile or tap on the Like button to let them know. Furthermore, Facebook Dating allows you to match with friends of friends and/or people, not in your friend circle.

Key features

  • Users will soon be able to connect and share with Facebook and Instagram Stories.
  • A feature called ‘Secret Crush’ lets you match with people you already know on Facebook and/or Instagram.
  • Users can opt into Events and Groups to see people with similar interests.

While Facebook Dating is going to compete with the US rivals in the dating industry, its obvious that with its debut in Europe in 2020, it will throw an open challenge against almost established rivals over here including Netherland’s The Inner Circle, Germany’s Go Crush and more.

All said and done, with Facebook entering dating service has also raised some concerns regarding privacy since the company was involved in a few, especially Cambridge Analytica a few years back. What do you think about this app? Do let us know in the comment section below!
